Automatic large-scale building extraction from the LiDAR point clouds and remote sensing images is a growing focus in the fields of the sensor applications and remote sensing. However, this building extraction task remains highly challenging due to the complexity of building sizes, shapes, and surrounding environments. In addition, the discreteness, sparsity, and irregular distribution of point clouds, lighting, and shadows, as well as occlusions of the images, also seriously affect the accuracy of building extraction. To address the above issues, we propose a new unsupervised building extraction algorithm PBEA (Point and Pixel Building Extraction Algorithm) based on a new dual P-snake model (Dual Point and Pixel Snake Model). The proposed dual P-snake model is an enhanced active boundary model, which uses both point clouds and images simultaneously to obtain the inner and outer boundaries. The proposed dual P-snake model enables interaction and convergence between the inner and outer boundaries to improve the performance of building boundary detection, especially in complex scenes. Using the dual P-snake model and polygonization, this proposed PBEA can accurately extract large-scale buildings. We evaluated our PBEA and dual P-snake model on the ISPRS Vaihingen dataset and the Toronto dataset. The experimental results show that our PBEA achieves an area-based quality evaluation metric of 90.0% on the Vaihingen dataset and achieves the area-based quality evaluation metric of 92.4% on the Toronto dataset. Compared with other methods, our method demonstrates satisfactory performance.

The Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat-2) offers an unprecedented high density of laser data on the Earth’s surface. Evaluation and calibration of geolocation errors are important for the scientific application of laser data. In this study, a crossover method is proposed to evaluate and calibrate errors. This method mainly relies on small-scale reference data and consistency conditions at the trajectory crossovers. By matching the profile measurements of the ascending and descending altimeter tracks to find the location where the crossover discrepancy is minimized, the geolocation errors of the wide-area laser data are estimated. Three years of ICESat-2 measurements over the Ridgecrest (CA19) in the southern United States and McMurdo Dry Valleys (MDV) in eastern Antarctica were used to test the performance of the method. It was shown that the method can be used to estimate the geolocation error of the ICESat-2 laser data, which ranged from 4.65 m to 5.62 m for both sites. After calibration, the mean absolute error of the crossover discrepancies was reduced by approximately 50%. In addition, with the reference digital elevation model (DEM) as the true value, the elevation accuracy (RMSE) of the laser data at the CA19 site improved from 0.38 m before calibration to 0.34 m after calibration, and the improvement at the MDV site was even more significant, about 0.22m. In conclusion, the proposed method is effective and feasible and can improve the consistency of long-period laser data quality in large areas.

Laser point cloud data have the characteristics of high elevation accuracy, fast processing efficiency, strong three-dimensional (3D) vision, and wide application fields. It will be one of the core datasets of the new generation national global topographic database. The rapid advancement of spaceborne laser earth observation technology allows the collection of global 3D point cloud data, which has brought a new breakthrough in the field of satellite-based earth observation, and its significant advantages of all-day time, high accuracy and high efficiency will lead the future development of space precise mapping technology. This chapter firstly introduces the principle and development status of satellite-based LiDAR technology, then presents the basic technical framework of satellite-based LiDAR 3D mapping, and analyzes the data processing methods of spaceborne photon point clouds, and finally, focuses on the application research in various fields including precise geolocation of combined with satellite images, fusion of multi-source topographic information, polar mapping, 3D objects reconstruction, and shallow sea topographic mapping, etc.

Purpose:On the basis of strong preclinical rationale, we sought to confirm recommended phase II dose (RP2D) for olaparib, a PARP inhibitor, combined with the AKT inhibitor capivasertib and assess molecular markers of response and resistance.Patients and Methods:We performed a safety lead-in followed by expansion in endometrial, triple-negative breast, ovarian, fallopian tube, or peritoneal cancer. Olaparib 300 mg orally twice daily and capivasertib orally twice daily on a 4-day on 3-day off schedule was evaluated. Two dose levels (DL) of capivasertib were planned: 400 mg (DL1) and 320 mg (DL-1). Patients underwent biopsies at baseline and 28 days. Results:A total of 38 patients were enrolled. Seven (18%) had germline BRCA1/2 mutations. The first 2 patients on DL1 experienced dose-limiting toxicities (DLT) of diarrhea and vomiting. No DLTs were observed on DL-1 (n = 6); therefore, DL1 was reexplored (n = 6) with no DLTs, confirming DL1 as RP2D. Most common treatment-related grade 3/4 adverse events were anemia (23.7%) and leukopenia (10.5%). Of 32 evaluable subjects, 6 (19%) had partial response (PR); PR rate was 44.4% in endometrial cancer. Seven (22%) additional patients had stable disease greater than 4 months. Tumor analysis demonstrated strong correlations between response and immune activity, cell-cycle alterations, and DNA damage response. Therapy resistance was associated with receptor tyrosine kinase and RAS-MAPK pathway activity, metabolism, and epigenetics. Conclusions:The combination of olaparib and capivasertib is associated to no serious adverse events and demonstrates durable activity in ovarian, endometrial, and breast cancers, with promising responses in endometrial cancer. Importantly, tumor samples acquired pre- and on-therapy can help predict patient benefit.
