This paper presents the results of an analysis of the pace of filling one of the deepest European granite quarries with water. A DTM (digital terrain model) based on data from LiDAR ALS (light detection and ranging airborne laser scanning) was used to create a model of the pit of the Strzelin I granite quarry and to determine the reach and surface area of the direct catchment of the excavation pit. The increase in the volume of water in the excavation pit was determined. Analogue maps and DTM were used to calculate the maximum depth of the pit (113.3 m), its surface area (9.71 ha), and its capacity (5.1 million m3). The volume of water collected in the excavation pit during the years 2011–2018 was determined based on the analogue base map and the DTM. The result was 0.335 million m3. Based on the data made available by the mining company, the correlation of the DTM with the orthophotomap of the mining area and additional field measurements, the ordinates of the water level in the years 2011–2018 were determined. Initially, the water surface level in the quarry was located on the ordinate of 66.6 m a.s.l. (July 20, 2011). After the pumping of water was discontinued, the level rose to 96.1 m a.s.l. (January 28, 2018). The increase in the water volume in the quarry pit during specific periods was determined (actual retention increase). The obtained data on the volume of the retained water referred to the period during which it accumulated in the quarry. On average, the net increase in water retention in the excavation pit was 138.537 m3∙d−1, and the calculated net supply from the direct catchment (16.04 ha) was 101.758 m3∙d−1. The use of DTM and measurements of the water level in the excavation pit seem to be an efficient means of estimating the pace of spontaneous filling of the quarry with water supplied from the direct physiographic catchment.

The study presents the conception of the windbreaks and the green-isolation limiting dust migration from the granite quarry. Local geology as well as the volume of stone production, technical parameters of rocks and assortment of manufactured aggregates are characterized. The authors have also discussed the climatic conditions with particular reference to prevailing directions of the wind. The article describes the physical-chemical properties of the land dumping grounds and the quarry ground-shafts. The suggested conception of the windbreaks and the green-isolation includes the planting of trees and shrubs within the quarry area and in the windbreaks adjacent to the quarry. The aim of the proposed planting is to reduce the wind speed, to capture the particles of dust and to improve the aesthetic values of the quarry, which will lead to a reduction of the pressure and negative impact of the quarry on the environment, landscape and local inhabitants.

W pracy przedstawiono prawne aspekty budowy przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków przede wszystkim w świetle przepisów miejscowych planów zagospodarowania przestrzennego, jak również w kontekście procesu budowlanego. Autorzy szczególną uwagę poświęcają orzeczeniom sądów administracyjnych wydanych na skutek toczących się postępowań administracyjnych o wydanie pozwolenia na budowę, jak i postępowań administracyjnych toczących się po złożeniu przez organ administracyjny sprzeciwu od zgłoszenia budowy przydomowej oczyszczalni ścieków. Sądy administracyjne w ramach sprawowanej kontroli w tym zakresie oceniały również postanowienia miejscowych planów zagospodarowania przestrzennego w kontekście dopuszczalności budowy przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków. Ewentualne ograniczenia budowy przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków stanowią wyjątek od zasady nienaruszalności prawa własności właściciela nieruchomości i z tego powodu winny być w sposób szczególny uzasadnione. A digital terrain model of the Strzelin granite quarry was created from ISOK project data obtained from airborne laser scanning (ALS). Based on 2009, 2012, and 2014 data, the volume of water in the Strzelin quarry’s two excavations were determined. Additionally, the predicted volume of retained water after mining ceases was calculated, assuming a water level of 150.0 m a.s.l. In 2014, the two reservoirs retained, respectively, ≈ 0.14 and 0.01 million m3 of water. If the two pits are eventually connected, ≈ 6.6 million m3 of water could be retained. Including the 2014 water volume as a small-scale retention basin would increase the volume of retained water in the Ślęza catchment and Strzelin County by 19.0%, and 34.2%, respectively. Im Jahr 2014 hatten die beiden Restseen ein Volumen von 0,14 bzw. 0,01 Mio. m³ Wasser. Für den Fall, dass die beiden Restseen verbunden wären, könnten 6,6 Mio. m³ Wasser gespeichert werden. Unter Einbeziehung der Wasservolumina der Restseen aus 2014 als zusätzlichen Wasserspeicher würde sich das Rückhaltevermögen des Ślęza Einzugsgebiets um 19% und des Strezliner Landkreises um 34,2 % erhöhen. Das geschätzte Speichervolumen nach Bergbauende würde die kleinräumige Retention (Reservoir und Teich) im Ślęza Einzugsgebiet um das 8-fache und im Landkreis um das 15 fache erhöhen. En 2014, los dos reservorios retuvieron ≈0,14 y 0,01 millones de m3 de agua, respectivamente. Si los dos pozos fueran conectados, podrían ser retenidos ≈6,6 millones de m3 de agua. Incluir el volumen de agua 2014 como una cuenca de retención a pequeña escala incrementaría el volumen de agua retenida en la cuenca Ślęza y en el condado Strzelin en 19,0% y 34,2%, respectivamente. El hipotético reservorio creado después de la finalización de la minería incrementaría la retención a pequeña escala (reservorio y estanque) ≈8 veces en la cuenca Ślęza y ≈15 veces en el condado, constituyendo una mejora significativa.

New challenges for the territorial government in the field of urban sewage sludge oblige to limit it storage. Sewage sludge management is one of the most difficult environmental and economic problems. Therefore, it is important to choose the right technology for the sewage sludge disposal. The purpose of this article is an evaluation of applied disposal methods on sewage treatment sludge plant and comparison of this method (sewage sludge composting) with thermal transformation of sewage sludge. Study confi rms that, in the present case, the composting of sewage sludge is the most advantageous solution.

The study presents the legal requirements concerning the quality of wastewater discharged to waterbodies and to soil after treatment in household wastewater treatment plants located in agglomerations or outside them. The procedure of stopping the operation of a household treatment plant that doesn’t meet the statutory wastewater treatment efficiency was presented. The decision ordering to stop the use of a household wastewater treatment plant has to be preceded by a decision ordering to take measures to limit its adverse impact on the environment. The clarification procedure has to determine the adverse impact on the environment in a doubtless manner and it has to be reflected in the documentation. The assessment of adverse impact should take into account the binding standards of use of the environment. Stopping the operation of a household wastewater treatment plant may result in issuing a decision ordering the user to connect to the sanitary sewage system.

Granite and kaolin clay are chief geological reserves of the Strzegom municipality and both are currently mined commercially, while basalt used to be mined in the past. An abandoned basalt quarry allows us to see the full lifecycle of a mine, particularly its last stages. The basalt quarry in Strzegom is situated on a plot with an area of 5.1434 ha. Commercial basalt mining on the Wide Mt. in Strzegom began in the 19th century. The mine was shut down in 1981 after the extraction of about 86 % of documented resources. In 1986, due to heavy exhaustion of the granite bedrock and the creation of an area of protected landscape, the Chief National Geologist revoked the decision from 1964, thus ruling out any possibility of commercial mining in that area. The last stages of the mine's life do not involve human involvement. The area is undergoing mine reclamation through ecological succession only. Currently, the pit is filled with water, partially overgrown with reed, with sharp cliff sides, going all the way down into the water. Leaving the mine to heal naturally has given great environmental results. Geological formations in the area have provided habitat for rock plants and heat-loving plants. Lack of human intervention in the profile of the pit had no negative effect on the site. A landscape analysis of the area has confirmed that it is of high ecological value. Therefore, the quarry meets all the requirements to be included on the list of historical quarries. We have to make sure that the last stage in the life of this mine does not become less attractive and important for the economy than in the days when it was still operational. German Granit und Kaolin sind geologische Hauptressourcen der Gemeinde Strzegom. Zurzeit werden diese beiden Rohstoffe industriell abgebaut, aber in der Vergangenheit wurde hier auch Basalt gefördert. Der heute stillgelegte Basaltsteinbruch lässt den vollen Lebenszyklus einer Abbaustätte mit den besonderen Eigenschaften seines letztens Stadiums nachvollziehen. Der Basaltsteinbruch in Strzegom umfasst eine Gesamtfläche von 5,1434 ha. Der industrielle Basalt-Abbau hat im 19. Jahrhundert begonnen und der Betrieb wurde im Jahre 1981 nach dem Abbau von ca. 86 % der erkundeten Ressourcen beendet. Im Jahre 1986 wurde daher der Abbau wegen der nahezu vollständigen Erschöpfung der Lagerstätte und wegen des Auslaufens der Befreiung vom Naturschutz durch den Hauptstaatsgeologen aus dem Jahre 1964 endgültig eingestellt. Weil die Rekultivierung einzig und allein über die biologische Sukzession erfolgte, wird die letzte Stufe des Tagebaus ohne Engagement des Menschen umgesetzt. Zurzeit ist der Steinbruch mit Wasser gefüllt, die Ufer sind teilweise mit Schilf bewachsen oder sind im Bereich steiler Böschungen ohne Vegetation ausgebildet. Die natürliche Sukzession erbrachte sehr wertvolle Ergebnisse: So bieten die Basaltwände des Steinbruches einen wertvollen Lebensraum für fels- und wärmebedürftige Pflanzengruppen. Da der Mensch die Form der Böschungen nicht veränderte, werden diese Pflanzenvergesellschaftungen auch nicht gefährdet. Die Landschaftsanalyse bestätigt, dass das Gebiet einen hohen ökologischen Wert besitzt. Die genannten Argumente belegen, dass der Steinbruch alle Anforderungen erfüllt, um in ein Projekt für die Aufwertung historischer Steinbrüche eingebunden zu werden. Außerdem wird dadurch dafür gesorgt, dass die letzte Phase dieses Tagebaus nicht weniger attraktiv und wichtig für die regionale Wirtschaft ist, wie zu seinen Abbauzeiten.

This article presents an analysis of these two parameters in samples of rainfall collected in the years 2008-2010 (in the heating season and outside it) in three measurement sites P1, P2 and P3, located in the city and commune Strzelin (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). Preliminary results show a high variation of pH and electrical conductivity of rainfall occurring in the analysed area. Approximately 30% of the samples were characterised by a pH that allowed to qualify them, according to JANSEN et al. [1988], as normal rainfall. A similar share in all the collected samples represented rainfall of pH < 5.1 that was classified as slightly, considerably and highly acidic. The problem of acid rain occurred in the analysed area mainly during the heating season, when rainfall of pH < 5.1 accounted for a considerable share in all rainfall samples collected in the said period. The electrical conductivity of most samples fell below 60 μS·cm-1, which allowed us to classify them as slightly polluted rainfall (site P2), considerably polluted (site P3) and highly polluted (site P1).

The paper presents the results of research on the spatial variation of oxygen condition in a carp pond. The analysis of dissolved oxygen was carried out in the summer in 29 measuring points. In the analysed months the differences were determined between dissolved oxygen concentration in the strip of rushes and the part of the pond free from macrophytes. In the strip of rushes, the average concentration of dissolved oxygen was between 4.69-6.49 mg O2·dm-3. In the part of pond located near the strip of rushes the oxygen concentration was between 6.23-7.91 mg O2·dm-3 and in open water concentration of dissolved oxygen was in range 7.60-9.09 mg O2·dm-3. It was found that the biggest differences in oxygen concentration occur between the strip of rushes and the open water column: 40% in June, 26% in July, 28% in August, 38% in September, respectively. In the south-western part of the pond, covered with macrophytes and shaded by trees, the worst oxygen conditions were observed - below the optimum level for carps, sometimes reaching lethal values. The best oxygen conditions, noted in July and August, were in the central and northern part of the pond including the fishery and feeding point. In order to improve the oxygen conditions in macrophytes zone it is recommended to remove the rushes periodically and to remember to leave the part of emergent plants that are necessary for breeding and living avifauna. The scope and timing of the removal of plants has to be consulted and co-ordinated with the Regional Conservator of Nature.
