Existing multilevel inverter circuits are constructed by using more number of components and boost operation is not possible. Modified multilevel inverter with step-up operation using fewer components is proposed in this article. The proposed circuit consists of three capacitors and eight switches, which can able to produce seven-level output. Boost operation is based on the charge pump principle, which can boost 1.5 times of the input voltage in the output. Based on this idea, five-level, seven-level, and nine-level topologies are developed in simulink platform, and the outputs are presented in Section IV. A sine pulsewidth modulation (SPWM) is employed to drive switches, and switching pattern is mainly focused to balance the capacitors and to balance capacitor charging/discharging. Among the three proposed circuits, seven-level circuit is discussed in Section II, using mathematical modeling in MATLAB platform and validated in the real-time model. The main aim of this topology is to reduce total harmonic distortion.

Introduction. Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters (CHB-MLI) are becoming increasingly used in applications such as distribution systems, electrical traction systems, high voltage direct conversion systems, and many others. Despite the fact that multilevel inverters contain a large number of control switches, detecting a malfunction takes a significant amount of time. In the fault switch configurations diode included for freewheeling operation during open-fault condition. During short circuit fault conditions are carried out by the fuse, which can reveal the freewheeling current direction. The fault category can be identified independently and also failure of power switches harmed by the functioning and reliability of CHB-MLI. This paper investigates the effects and performance of open and short switching faults of multilevel inverters. Output voltage characteristics of 5 level MLI are frequently determined from distinctive switch faults with modulation index value of 0.85 is used during simulation analysis. In the simulation experiment for the modulation index value of 0.85, one second open and short circuit faults are created for the place of faulty switch. Fault is identified automatically by means of artificial neural network (ANN) technique using sinusoidal pulse width modulation based on distorted total harmonic distortion (THD) and managed by its own. The novelty of the proposed work consists of a fast Fourier transform (FFT) and ANN to identify faulty switch. Purpose. The proposed architecture is to identify faulty switch during open and short failures, which has to be reduced THD and make the system in reliable operation. Methods. The proposed topology is to be design and evaluate using MATLAB/Simulink platform. Results. Using the FFT and ANN approaches, the normal and faulty conditions of the MLI are explored, and the faulty switch is detected based on voltage changing patterns in the output. Practical value. The proposed topology has been very supportive for implementing non-conventional energy sources based multilevel inverter, which is connected to large demand in grid.

This article proposes a bidirectional single-phase dc–ac converter with triple port converter (T-PC) for application of energy storage. This proposed converter provides three ports such as ac port, dc port, and dc bus port to achieve three power interfacing ports. For the direct conversion process, dc port is directly connected to T-PC, and direct power will be exchanged between energy storage device (ESD) and grid when the ESD voltage peak amplitude is lower than the ac voltage. Thus, a dc–dc converter downstream power process gets reduced, and power loss is decreased considerably. Due to multilevel characteristics, switching losses in the T-PC can be reduced. The efficiency of the overall bidirectional dc–ac conversion process can be increased significantly. The circuit model, working principle, and modulation control of T-PC-based bidirectional dc–ac conversion concepts are analyzed. A 1.5-kW test-bench model is developed and its effectiveness is verified to find the merits of suggested conversion.

The rapid response capabilities of high-conducting electromagnetic energy storage (HEES) devices are advantageous for mitigating sudden fluctuations in voltage and power. However, the cost of HEES coils significantly exceeds that of traditional battery energy storage solutions. To enhance the efficiency of energy use and diminish the costs associated with energy storage across multiline power distribution systems, this study presents an innovative approach involving an interline dc flexible voltage restorer (IFVR) configuration. This approach utilizes a single HEES coil connected to several compensating circuits. The innovation introduces a current–voltage (V–I) chopper assembly with multiple input/output power connections, enabling the connection of one HEES coil to various power lines. This setup ensures the independent management of energy exchanges for any compensated line. Importantly, when multiple power lines require compensation simultaneously, the HEES coil can be selectively activated to prioritize compensation based on the designated order of importance of the lines. The practicality of this method is confirmed through technical verification, demonstrating its ability to sustain transient voltage stability during voltage increases and decreases on multiple lines. These scenarios may arise from fluctuations in output voltage from power external supplies or variations in load demand from locally connected loads.

The existing neutral clamped active inverter has common mode voltage with the high frequency which can reduce the severity with less voltage gain. The traditional active neutral point clamped (APC) DC–AC converter maintains great common mode voltage with high-frequency (CMV-HF) reduction capability so, it has limited voltage gain. The paper presents a new 5-level active neutral point clamped DC–AC converter that can change voltage step-up in a single-stage inversion. In the suggested design, a common ground not only reduces the CMV-HF but also improves DC link voltage use. Compared with the traditional two-stage 5-level APC DC–AC converter, the proposed design has lower voltage stresses and greater uniformity. While improving the overall efficiency, the suggested clamped DC–AC converter saves three power switches and a capacitor. Modelling and actual tests have proven the suggested active neutral point clamped inverter’s overall operation, efficacy and achievability. The proposed circuit is finally tested with fault clearance capability.

A newly designed DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter (DATBC) with an encapsulated DC–DC converter (EDC) for the energy storage system (ESD) is analysed and investigated in this research paper. By using encapsulated or embedded or hidden DC–DC converter a stable and constant DC bus is developed between the encapsulated DC–DC converter and DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter. The proposed converter is entirely different from the traditional dual-stage DC–AC converter, because it takes less than 20% of power used for the DC–AC conversion process. So, this reduced power consumption increases efficiency to a considerable value. A new control technique for zero sequence has been adopted components are inserted in the modulating signal based on carrier pulse width modulation (CPWM). Working principle, implementation and characteristics of the DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter are analysed. Effectiveness and feasibility of the developed converter are examined with a proto-type model.
