Elsayed Z. Soliman, MD, MSc, MS, FAHA, FACC, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Section on Cardiology. He is nationally recognized for his work on population electrocardiography and currently serves as the Director of the Epidemiological Cardiology Research Center (EPICARE), the electrocardiogram (ECG) core laboratory for several national and international NIH-funded studies. His research interests span from improving the current methods of recording ECG in population studies to developing new applications for ECG data. With over 700 peer-reviewed manuscripts published in leading medical journals, Dr. Soliman has contributed significantly to cardiovascular epidemiology and public health advancements. He is credited with developing several novel models and markers for diagnosing and predicting cardiovascular diseases. Before joining the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Dr. Soliman served as a Medical Advisor to the government of Malawi, sponsored by the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa, and as a United Nations Medical Doctor in Trinidad and Tobago. He also acted as an Adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO) and led two WHO-sponsored studies in Malawi and another in Sri Lanka. His multidisciplinary expertise is recognized through his chairing and serving on several U.S. research working groups and funding organizations.
