Background Chronotype is the individual's tendency to exhibit morning or evening behaviors. Having an evening chronotype creates an environment for different chronic diseases. An individual's lifestyle behaviors that are contrary to the endogenous circadian rhythm pave the way for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Methods This study, which was conducted to evaluate the relationship between chronotype and CVD risk in adult individuals, involved a total of 1,100 individuals aged between 19 and 64 years who applied to a family health center in Elazig, Turkey. The demographic questionnaire, the self-assessment Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ), and the Framingham Risk Score were used to collect data. Biochemical parameters were queried from patient records with measurements taken in the last week, and anthropometric measurements were recorded by researchers. Results At the end of the study, it was determined that individuals in the eveningness group had a higher risk (N=31, 29.8%) of CVDs. In addition, the percentage of individuals with body mass index (BMI) (N=67, 64.4%), fasting blood glucose (FBG) (N=19, 18.3%), total cholesterol (N=44, 42.3%), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) (N=38, 36.5%) values above the reference ranges was found to be higher in the evening chronotype group. Conclusion As a result, individuals with an evening chronotype are at higher risk for CVDs. In addition, obesity and some biochemical parameters are more common in individuals with an evening chronotype. Supporting healthy lifestyle activities by taking into account the chronotype habits of individuals may contribute to the prevention of chronic diseases.

The effects of chronotype and diet on obese individuals have been reported in previous studies. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the Mediterranean-DASH intervention for neurodegenerative delay (MIND) diet, chronotype and lifestyle factors in different types of overweight and obese people. 1100 obese individuals participated in this cross-sectional study. Compliance with the MIND diet was questioned, anthropometric measurements were taken, and biochemical parameter results from patient records in the last week were examined. Chronotypes were determined with the "A self-assessment questionnaire to determine morningness in human circadian rhythms" scale. MIND diet score was inversely associated with the body mass index (BMI) [β (SE) = -0.239 (0.11), p = 0.31] and waist circumference [β (SE) = -0.026 (0.01), p = 0.028], explained 0.4% of BMI and 0.6% of WC. There was a significant relationship between poorer MIND diets and higher CRP levels. A positive correlation was found between an increased MEQ score and MIND diet only in overweight participants (correlation coefficient = 0.200, p < 0.05). Whole cereals and fish consumption were positively associated with chronotype scores, while the highest odds of red meats and fast/fried foods seemed to have a negative effect. As a result, it has been observed that individuals with a morning chronotype have higher compliance with the MIND diet and make healthier food choices. Both having a morning chronotype and complying with the MIND diet have been associated with improvements in biochemical parameters in overweight and obese people.

It has been reported that symptoms of social media addiction can manifest as physical and emotional reactions, as well as psychological and interpersonal problems. This study was conducted to examine the effects of digital addiction on sleep, chronotype, healthy eating self-efficacy and physical activity self-efficacy in adolescents aged 9-18. This study was conducted with 1895 adolescents aged 9-18 studying in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Elazığ, Turkey. The questionnaire form consisted of demographic data and scales for chronotype, physical activity self-efficacy, healthy eating self-efficacy, sleep disturbance, and digital addiction. Of the adolescents participating in the study, 5.2% were morning people, 46.3% were intermediate, and 48.5% were evening people. Digital addiction was found to affect physical activity self-efficacy (p

Background: The rate of NAFLD in the general population is estimated to be 25.2%. NAFLD is affected by lifestyle, diet, and inflammation. In this study, the use of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics was aimed to modulate the circadian clock in the liver and improve metabolic disorder through the gut–liver axis. Methods: Six-week-old, healthy, 43 Wistar albino rats were included in the study and their average weight was determined as 140.50 g (95.00–177.00) at the beginning of the study. Before the study, the rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, 8 animals were placed in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th groups and 11 animals were placed in the 2nd group. Rats in group 1 were fed standard food for 13 weeks. Rats in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th groups were fed with 10% fructose water during the 1-week adaptation period and then 20% fructose water. After the 7th week, probiotic treatment (2 × 109 CFU/ml Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) was administered to rats in group 3rd via gavage for 6 weeks, and prebiotic treatment was administered to rats in group 4th with feed containing 10% grape seed extract. Rats in the 5th group were given a feed consisting of 10% grape seed extract and 2 × 109 CFU/ml Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG via gavage. Results: It was determined that the use of prebiotics as a treatment option in fatty liver had a more positive effect on glucose, ALT, melatonin, and ZO-1 values. In addition, it was observed that synbiotic use had more positive effects on histopathological findings, NAS score, and the expression level of circadian clock genes. While there was no significant difference between the mRNA levels of circadian clock genes, it was observed that gene expression levels increased with fructose consumption and decreased especially with synbiotic treatment. Conclusion: It has been observed that fructose modulates the circadian rhythm by affecting some biochemical and genomic pathways as a result of synbiotic use in order to prevent the negative effects of fructose on fatty liver.

Background: Parental attitudes play an important role in the development of nutritional behavior in children. In this context, the Feeding Coparenting Scale (FCS) is among the scales that can be used to evaluate the attitudes of parents towards the nutrition of their children. Methods: This study was planned to evaluate the validity and reliability of the FCS scale in the Turkish population and was conducted in two stages. In the pilot study, the suitability of the scale for validity analysis was evaluated with 34 parents. Then, in the second stage, confirmatory factor analyses of the FCS scale were conducted with 230 participants. Results: Since the item-total score correlation values of 11 out of 13 items in the scale were high, 11 items were included in the factor analysis. Confirmatory Factor Analysis provided 11 items and 3-factor structural validity. Conclusions: As a result, it is thought that the Turkish form of the FCS scale can be a valid scale that can be used in the Turkish society with acceptable compliance in evaluating how mothers and fathers work together in the field of child nutrition.
