Dr. Henagan is a Family Medicine physician at the Baton Rouge General. She obtained her MD from the LSU School of Medicine - Shreveport. She specializes in seeing patients across all walks of life, ranging from infants to the elderly. As a family medicine practitioner, she is qualified to see patients for annual Wellness exams, including gynecological exams, sports physicals, and chronic and acute illnesses. She is also available to see pregnant women and provide prenatal, perinatal and postnatal care.
Dr. Henagan also has a PhD in Exercise Physiology from LSU - Baton Rouge. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Henagan was an Assistant Professor at Purdue University in the Department of Nutrition Science. Her laboratory at Purdue University focused on Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes research, specifically looking at the effects of diet and exercise on epigenetic regulation of mitochondrial adaptations in skeletal muscle. Dr. Henagan also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurosignaling at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, LA. She has over 70 research publications, including research articles, abstracts and book chapters. She has given numerous talks at National conferences, universities, and medical schools and has served as a national and international grant and peer reviewer.
Dr. Henagan is also an ACSM Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2010, specializing in creating resistance weight training programs for various populations.
