In most industrial applications, it is difficult to obtain complete demagnetization fault signals of all conditions with labels for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), and motors are not allowed to be disassembled, so non-contact diagnostic methods are essential. A non-contact fault diagnosis method using magnetic leakage signal based on wavelet scattering convolution network (WSCN) and semi-supervised deep rule-based (SSDRB) classifier is proposed. Through magnetic equivalent circuit model analysis, the magnetic leakage signal on motor surface is selected as fault signal. To avoid complex signal processing, the symmetrized dot pattern method is introduced to convert fault signals into two-dimensional images. Then, WSCN is applied to extract features from images, and SSDRB classifier is adopted to diagnose demagnetization fault. Finally, faulty motor prototypes are manufactured for experiment. By comparing with other methods, the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method using a small number of labeled samples under different conditions are verified.

Traditional fault diagnosis methods are easy to be affected by different working conditions. This article proposed a motor fault diagnosis method based on visual knowledge, to reduce the impact of changes in working conditions and improve the feature extraction ability. The mapping relationship between actual faults and image intuitive features by symmetrized dot pattern and scale-invariant feature transform is established in this article. The fault state is obtained by statistics of the matching point with the dictionary templates generated from signals of normal and unnormal motors. Compared with other machine learning algorithms, this method does not need too much data training and learning. The efficiency of this method is validated by experiments, and the data image processing technology has great industrial application value in the field of motor fault detection or monitoring in the age of intelligence.

Impact damage, caused by low-energy impact, is inevitable during the whole life time of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material. However, the barely visible impact damage (BVID) is difficult to be detected by visual methods. Ultrasonic thermography (UT) is an emerging non-destructive testing technique that visualizes damage in thermal images captured by an infrared (IR) camera when the material is stimulated by ultrasound. However, noise and blurry edges around the high temperature areas may cause confusion and lead to unreliable results in the thermal images of UT test. In this work, an impact damage inspection method is proposed based on manifold learning for CFRP material. Low-power ultrasonic excitation is used for this UT. The IR image sequences are processed as data sets in high-dimensional space. These data sets are reduced to lower dimensions by manifold learning to find the intrinsic structure in the two-dimensional manifold. Each dimension of the embedding manifold correlates highly with one degree of freedom underlying the original pixel: steady and random components. The steady component, which reflects the temperature rise caused by damage, is used for VID and BVID detection. The experimental system was set up, and CFRP plate specimens with different impact damage were tested. All the impact damage could be detected and shown in reconstructed static image with little noise. The proposed method using image sequences could provide a visualized, reliable and effective impact damage inspection and localization means for CFRP material during manufacturing and in service.

During the long-term operation of motors, their working conditions are changing due to the industrial demands or declining health status, and traditional diagnosis methods perform poorly in that case. This article proposes a fault diagnosis method based on graph cardinality preserved attention network (GCPAT), which can work under varying working conditions, and can be generalized to the transient state. Diagnosis results are obtained by analyzing signal-converting graphs, which are composed of nodes and edges. First, the vibration signals are converted into symmetrical snowflake images by symmetrized dot pattern (SDP) method. Second, SLIC is developed to make homogeneous super-pixels in SDP images as nodes, and form graphs according to color, texture, and distance features. Finally, the GCPAT is utilized to distinguish motor status. Compared with other state-of-art methods, the results show the out-performance of GCPAT under varying working conditions both in steady and transient state.
Infrared image segmentation of the wind turbine blade is an important link of wind turbine condition monitoring. Nevertheless, there remain plenty of challenges when the traditional semantic segmentation networks are applied directly to the infrared image segmentation of wind turbine blade, including the blurred boundaries caused by similar thermal radiation of background and blade, the irregularity of edge identification caused by uneven heating and the hub misidentified as blade. To address these issues, a semantic segmentation neural network based on the basic U-Net is improved for infrared image segmentation of the wind turbine blade. The hierarchical-split depthwise separable convolution block is integrated into the constructed network to have a higher segmentation accuracy. And the fusion of convolution layer and batch normalization layer is performed in inference to get a better speed accuracy trade-off. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms all the comparing methods, which further demonstrates that the trained network can achieve superior runtime performance and accurate segmentation with excellent anti-interference performance.

Data-driven intelligent diagnosis methods require sufficient labeled data during training, which are usually limited in practice. A semisupervised conditional random field-based graph attention network (CRF-GAT) algorithm is proposed in this article for fault diagnosis and condition monitoring. The proposed method combines the advantages of CRF and GAT, and therefore, it achieves semisupervised fault diagnosis by modeling the label dependency and learning object representations. The scheme is optimized with the variational expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm. Specially, the clustering with adaptive neighbor (CAN) method is introduced for constructing the graph. The proposed method is applied in induction motor (IM) and permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), which achieves the identification of the motor status, fault severity, and working condition. The results show that the CRF-GAT can realize an accuracy of above 97% with even below 10% of labeled samples for training, which demonstrates that it is an effective method in semisupervised fault diagnosis.
