Micaela Carvajal completed an M.Sc. in Biology from the University of Murcia in 1989. In 1991, she received a Master's degree in Water Science and Technology. In 1992, she completed her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Murcia, obtaining the highest qualification Cum Laude. She completed a postdoctoral study at Long Ashton Research Station, Bristol (UK), where she studied the effects of nutrients on the functionality of aquaporins.
Since 1998, she has been a regular member of the staff at CEBAS-CSIC. Since 2009, she has been serving as a professor in science. The lines of research or development in which she has worked mainly focus on the study of salinity and water absorption through aquaporins.
