This work reports the facile, controlled, and low-cost synthesis of a nickel oxide and polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposites-based electrode material for supercapacitor application. PANI-NiO nanocomposites with varying concentrations of NiO were synthesized via in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline. The XRD and FTIR support the interaction of PANI with NiO and the successful formation of the PANI-NiO-x nanocomposite. The SEM analysis showed that the NiO and PANI were mixed homogenously, in which the NiO nanomaterial was incorporated in porous PANI globular nanostructures. The multiple phases of the nanocomposite electrode material enhance the overall performance of the energy-storage behavior of the supercapacitor that was tested in 1 M H2SO4 using cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Among the different nanocomposites, PANI-NiO-3 exhibit the specific capacitance of a 623 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 current density. Furthermore, the PANI-NiO-3 electrode retained 89.4% of its initial capacitance after 5000 cycles of GCD at a 20 A g−1 current density, indicating its significant cyclic stability. Such results suggest that PANI-NiO nanocomposite could be proposed as an appropriate electrode material for supercapacitor applications.

Among various metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, iron-oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have been more widely used for the degradation of harmful organic dyes and the inhibition of microbial growth; on the other hand, it positively affects mammalian cells. Green synthesis of IONPs has piqued the interest of researchers because it improves stability and is an environmentally friendly method of avoiding the use of harmful chemicals as a reducing agent. In this study, IONPs were synthesized using Psidium guajava leaf extract, which was further applied for its industrial dye degradation and anti-microbial activities. UV–visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, XPS, EDX, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, and Zeta potential analysis were used to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. The synthesized IONPs managed to degrade methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) in the presence of H2O2. The degradation efficiency was 82.1% in 95 min and 53.9% in 205 min for MB and MO, respectively. Likewise, the synthesized IONPs showed good anti-bacterial activity with a ZOI of 13 mm for both Shigella sonnei and Staphylococcus aureus gram-positive bacteria. Similarly, they demonstrated good anti-fungal activity with ZOI of 15 mm and 13 mm for Candida tropicalis and Candidaalbicans, respectively. Thus, the IONPs can combat harmful organic dyes, and they can terminate the pathogenicity of several human pathogens.

A CoMoS composite is synthesized to combine the benefits of cobalt and molybdenum sulfides as an anodic material for advanced lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). The synthesis is accomplished using a simple two‐step hydrothermal method and the resulting CoMoS nanocomposites are subsequently encapsulated in a carbonized polydopamine shell. The synthesis procedure exploited the self‐polymerization ability of dopamine to create nitrogen‐doped carbon‐coated cobalt molybdenum sulfide, denoted as CoMoS@NC. Notably, the de‐lithiation capacity of CoMoS and CoMoS@NC is 420 and 709 mAh g⁻ 1 , respectively, even after 100 lithiation/de‐lithiation cycles at a current density of 200 mA g⁻ 1 . Furthermore, excellent capacity retention ability is observed for CoMoS@NC as it withstood 600 consecutive lithiation/de‐lithiation cycles with 94% capacity retention. Moreover, a LIB full‐cell assembly incorporating the CoMoS@NC anode and an NMC‐532 cathode is subjected to comprehensive electrochemical and practical tests to evaluate the performance of the anode. In addition, the density functional theory showcases the increased lithium adsorption for CoMoS@NC, supporting the experimental findings. Hence, the use of dopamine as a nitrogen‐doped carbon shell enhanced the performance of the CoMoS nanocomposites in experimental and theoretical tests, positioning the material as a strong candidate for LIB anode.

Nonessential heavy metals are toxic to human health. In this study, mercury, a hazardous metal, was detected by colorimetric analysis using Artemisia vulgaris-mediated silver nanoparticles (AgNP) without any modification in an aqueous solution. The UV–vis spectroscopy showed a characteristic SPR band of Ag0 at 418 nm, indicating the formation of AgNPs. The AgNPs were crystalline, with an average size of 7 nm, as calculated from the XRD data. The SEM images revealed the spherical and polycrystalline AgNPs within the agglomerated form. The FTIR spectra elucidated the functional group of the extract attached with the Ag0. The broad, strong peak at 3632 cm−1 indicated the involvement of the -OH group of compounds of extract in reducing silver ions. The peak of EDX spectra around 3 keV confirmed the silver in the nanostructure. A colorimetric method was employed for the heavy metal sensing in the aqueous medium without modification of AgNPs suspension. The obtained AgNPs were found to be selective and highly sensitive toward Hg2+ ions. The AgNPs suspension turned colorless after adding 380 µL of 1 mM Hg2+. The synthesized AgNPs showed the catalytic activity on reduction of 4-nitrophenol in the presence of NaBH4 within 8 min with a rate constant of 1.21 × 10−2 s−1. The outcome of these findings suggests that the application of Artemisia vulgaris influenced AgNPs for metal sensing and green catalysis.

Zinc–air batteries (ZABs) have garnered significant interest as a viable substitute for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), primarily due to their impressive energy density and low cost. However, the efficacy of zinc–air batteries is heavily dependent on electrocatalysts, which play a vital role in enhancing reaction efficiency and stability. This scholarly review article highlights the crucial significance of electrocatalysts in zinc–air batteries and explores the rationale behind employing Fe-Co-Ni-Zn-based metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived hybrid materials as potential electrocatalysts. These MOF-derived electrocatalysts offer advantages such as abundancy, high catalytic activity, tunability, and structural stability. Various synthesis methods and characterization techniques are employed to optimize the properties of MOF-derived electrocatalysts. Such electrocatalysts exhibit excellent catalytic activity, stability, and selectivity, making them suitable for applications in ZABs. Furthermore, they demonstrate notable capabilities in the realm of ZABs, encompassing elevated energy density, efficacy, and prolonged longevity. It is imperative to continue extensively researching and developing this area to propel the advancement of ZAB technology forward and pave the way for its practical implementation across diverse fields.

Alkaloids are aromatic hydrocarbons with nitrogen as heteroelements in the ring structure that are responsible for bonding with the metal surface and help to reduce corrosion of metals such as mild steel (MS) in an acidic medium. In this study, the alkaloid of Rhynchostylis retusa (RR) was extracted by solvent extraction method and confirmed by chemical test as well as FTIR spectroscopic test. Extracted alkaloids were tested as green inhibitors for the MS corrosion in a 1.0 M H2SO4 solution. The inhibition efficiency (IE) of alkaloid extracts of RR was studied by the weight loss measurement method and electrochemical polarization method. Results showed that the maximum IE in the gravimetric method was 87.51% in 1000 ppm solution at 6 h immersion time. Open circuit potential (OCP) and potentiodynamic polarization results indicated that the extracted alkaloids acted as a mixed type of inhibitor. IE by polarization method was found to be 93.24% for the sample immersed for 6 h. The temperature effect study reveals that inhibitors can work only below 35 °C. Alkaloids of RR can be successfully extracted and used as corrosion inhibitors for MS in an acidic medium below 35 °C.
