Dr. Efstathios A. Katsifas currently serves as a Laboratory Teaching Staff, Department of Biology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece). Lectures and practical training of students in the undergraduate courses General Microbiology, Advanced Molecular and Applied Microbiology, Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Lectures in the postgraduate courses MSc Program “Microbial Biotechnology”, MSc Program “Modern Trends in the Teaching of Biology with the Aid of New Technologies”, MSc Program “Biotechnology”, MSc Program “Ecology & Conservation of Biodiversity”. Research Interests: Study of the survival of bacteria in soil. Phenotypical, physiological, and molecular methods for monitoring the survival and activity of Streptomyces strains in sterile and non-sterile soil. Isolation of new indigenous actinobacteria from different types of Greek soil and screening for  production of compounds with scientific/ commercial interest. Molecular identification of bacterial isolates.  Scientific Publications/Citations: 23 publications in refereed journals, 50 presentations in international conferences and 42 presentations in national conferences, author of one chapter and co-author of one chapter in Advanced Molecular and Applied Microbiology Course Notes. Participation as an experienced researcher in 30 research projects funded by EU or National Sources.
