Dr. Mª
Teresa García is a Tenured Scientist at the Institute for Advanced Chemistry of
Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC), Spain. She obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the
University of Barcelona in 1990. Her research lies at the intersection of
Sustainable Chemistry and Nanotechnology, with a focus on the design and
synthesis of surfactants and ionic liquids, particularly regarding their
physicochemical properties and environmental impact. She specializes in the
development of non-toxic, biodegradable amphiphiles from renewable resources,
aiming to establish correlations between molecular structure and ecotoxicity to
produce multifunctional bioactive materials. Her current work explores
bio-based surfactants and ionic liquids as antimicrobial agents for bacterial
growth control. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications,
accumulating over 6,000 citations and an h-index of 42. She has contributed to several
book chapters and led multiple research projects as Principal Investigator. Throughout
her career, she has supervised doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students,
fostering the next generation of researchers in sustainable chemistry.
