In the field of remote sensing, due to memory consumption and computational burden, the single-image super-resolution (SISR) methods based on deep convolution neural networks (CNNs) are limited in practical application. To address this problem, we propose a lightweight feature enhancement network (FeNet) for accurate remote-sensing image super-resolution (SR). Considering the existence of equipment with extremely poor hardware facilities, we further design a lighter FeNet-baseline with about 158K parameters. Specifically, inspired by lattice structure, we construct a lightweight lattice block (LLB) as a nonlinear feature extraction function to improve the expression ability. Here, channel separation operation makes the upper and lower branches of the LLB only responsible for half of the features, and the weight coefficients calculated through the attention mechanism enable the upper and lower branches to communicate efficiently. Based on LLB, the feature enhancement block (FEB) is designed in a nested manner to obtain expressive features, where different layers are responsible for the features with different texture richness, and then features from different layers are sequentially fused from deep to shallow. Model parameters and multi-adds operations are used to evaluate network complexity, and extensive experiments on two remote-sensing and four SR benchmark test datasets show that our methods can achieve a good tradeoff between complexity and performance. Our code will be available at https://github.com/wangzheyuan-666/FeNet .

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) change detection provides a powerful tool for continuous, reliable, and objective observation of the Earth, supporting a wide range of applications that require regular monitoring and assessment of changes in the natural and built environment. In this paper, we introduce a novel SAR image change detection method based on principal component analysis and two-level clustering. First, two difference images of the log-ratio and mean-ratio operators are computed, then the principal component analysis fusion model is used to fuse the two difference images, and a new difference image is generated. To incorporate contextual information during the feature extraction phase, Gabor wavelets are used to obtain the representation of the difference image across multiple scales and orientations. The maximum magnitude across all orientations at each scale is then concatenated to form the Gabor feature vector. Following this, a cascading clustering algorithm is developed within this discriminative feature space by merging the first-level fuzzy c-means clustering with the second-level neighbor rule. Ultimately, the two-level combination of the changed and unchanged results produces the final change map. Five SAR datasets are used for the experiment, and the results show that our algorithm has significant advantages in SAR change detection.

The fusion of infrared and visible images together can fully leverage the respective advantages of each, providing a more comprehensive and richer set of information. This is applicable in various fields such as military surveillance, night navigation, environmental monitoring, etc. In this paper, a novel infrared and visible image fusion method based on sparse representation and guided filtering in Laplacian pyramid (LP) domain is introduced. The source images are decomposed into low- and high-frequency bands by the LP, respectively. Sparse representation has achieved significant effectiveness in image fusion, and it is used to process the low-frequency band; the guided filtering has excellent edge-preserving effects and can effectively maintain the spatial continuity of the high-frequency band. Therefore, guided filtering combined with the weighted sum of eight-neighborhood-based modified Laplacian (WSEML) is used to process high-frequency bands. Finally, the inverse LP transform is used to reconstruct the fused image. We conducted simulation experiments on the publicly available TNO dataset to validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm in fusing infrared and visible images. Our algorithm preserves both the thermal radiation characteristics of the infrared image and the detailed features of the visible image.

Change detection is an important task in identifying land cover change in different periods. In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, the inherent speckle noise leads to false changed points, and this affects the performance of change detection. To improve the accuracy of change detection, a novel automatic SAR image change detection algorithm based on saliency detection and convolutional-wavelet neural networks is proposed. The log-ratio operator is adopted to generate the difference image, and the speckle reducing anisotropic diffusion is used to enhance the original multitemporal SAR images and the difference image. To reduce the influence of speckle noise, the salient area that probably belongs to the changed object is obtained from the difference image. The saliency analysis step can remove small noise regions by thresholding the saliency map, and interest regions can be preserved. Then an enhanced difference image is generated by combing the binarized saliency map and two input images. A hierarchical fuzzy c-means model is applied to the enhanced difference image to classify pixels into the changed, unchanged, and intermediate regions. The convolutional-wavelet neural networks are used to generate the final change map. Experimental results on five SAR data sets indicated the proposed approach provided good performance in change detection compared to state-of-the-art relative techniques, and the values of the metrics computed by the proposed method caused significant improvement.

Multimodal medical image fusion aims to fuse images with complementary multisource information. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal medical image fusion method using pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) and a weighted sum of eight-neighborhood-based modified Laplacian (WSEML) integrating guided image filtering (GIF) in non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) domain. Firstly, the source images are decomposed by NSCT, several low- and high-frequency sub-bands are generated. Secondly, the PCNN-based fusion rule is used to process the low-frequency components, and the GIF-WSEML fusion model is used to process the high-frequency components. Finally, the fused image is obtained by integrating the fused low- and high-frequency sub-bands. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better performance in terms of multimodal medical image fusion. The proposed algorithm also has obvious advantages in objective evaluation indexes VIFF, QW, API, SD, EN and time consumption.

Multi-focus image fusion plays an important role in the application of computer vision. In the process of image fusion, there may be blurring and information loss, so it is our goal to obtain high-definition and information-rich fusion images. In this paper, a novel multi-focus image fusion method via local energy and sparse representation in the shearlet domain is proposed. The source images are decomposed into low- and high-frequency sub-bands according to the shearlet transform. The low-frequency sub-bands are fused by sparse representation, and the high-frequency sub-bands are fused by local energy. The inverse shearlet transform is used to reconstruct the fused image. The Lytro dataset with 20 pairs of images is used to verify the proposed method, and 8 state-of-the-art fusion methods and 8 metrics are used for comparison. According to the experimental results, our method can generate good performance for multi-focus image fusion.
