Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) change detection provides a powerful tool for continuous, reliable, and objective observation of the Earth, supporting a wide range of applications that require regular monitoring and assessment of changes in the natural and built environment. In this paper, we introduce a novel SAR image change detection method based on principal component analysis and two-level clustering. First, two difference images of the log-ratio and mean-ratio operators are computed, then the principal component analysis fusion model is used to fuse the two difference images, and a new difference image is generated. To incorporate contextual information during the feature extraction phase, Gabor wavelets are used to obtain the representation of the difference image across multiple scales and orientations. The maximum magnitude across all orientations at each scale is then concatenated to form the Gabor feature vector. Following this, a cascading clustering algorithm is developed within this discriminative feature space by merging the first-level fuzzy c-means clustering with the second-level neighbor rule. Ultimately, the two-level combination of the changed and unchanged results produces the final change map. Five SAR datasets are used for the experiment, and the results show that our algorithm has significant advantages in SAR change detection.

Segmenting medical images is a necessary prerequisite for disease diagnosis and treatment planning. Among various medical image segmentation tasks, U-Net-based variants have been widely used in liver tumor segmentation tasks. In view of the highly variable shape and size of tumors, in order to improve the accuracy of segmentation, this paper proposes a U-Net-based hybrid variable structure—RDCTrans U-Net for liver tumor segmentation in computed tomography (CT) examinations. We design a backbone network dominated by ResNeXt50 and supplemented by dilated convolution to increase the network depth, expand the perceptual field, and improve the efficiency of feature extraction without increasing the parameters. At the same time, Transformer is introduced in down-sampling to increase the network’s overall perception and global understanding of the image and to improve the accuracy of liver tumor segmentation. The method proposed in this paper tests the segmentation performance of liver tumors on the LiTS (Liver Tumor Segmentation) dataset. It obtained 89.22% mIoU and 98.91% Acc, for liver and tumor segmentation. The proposed model also achieved 93.38% Dice and 89.87% Dice, respectively. Compared with the original U-Net and the U-Net model that introduces dense connection, attention mechanism, and Transformer, respectively, the method proposed in this paper achieves SOTA (state of art) results.

The fusion of infrared and visible images together can fully leverage the respective advantages of each, providing a more comprehensive and richer set of information. This is applicable in various fields such as military surveillance, night navigation, environmental monitoring, etc. In this paper, a novel infrared and visible image fusion method based on sparse representation and guided filtering in Laplacian pyramid (LP) domain is introduced. The source images are decomposed into low- and high-frequency bands by the LP, respectively. Sparse representation has achieved significant effectiveness in image fusion, and it is used to process the low-frequency band; the guided filtering has excellent edge-preserving effects and can effectively maintain the spatial continuity of the high-frequency band. Therefore, guided filtering combined with the weighted sum of eight-neighborhood-based modified Laplacian (WSEML) is used to process high-frequency bands. Finally, the inverse LP transform is used to reconstruct the fused image. We conducted simulation experiments on the publicly available TNO dataset to validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm in fusing infrared and visible images. Our algorithm preserves both the thermal radiation characteristics of the infrared image and the detailed features of the visible image.

Robust sparse signal recovery against impulsive noise is a core issue in many applications. Numerous methods have been proposed to recover the sparse signal from measurements corrupted by various impulsive noises, but most of them either lack theoretical guarantee for robust sparse recovery or are not efficient enough for large-scale problems. To this end, a general optimization problem for robust sparse signal recovery, which includes many existing works as concrete instances, is analyzed by a freshly defined Double Null Space Property (DNSP), and its solution is proved to be able to robustly reconstruct the sparse signal under mild conditions. Moreover, for computational tractability, weakly convex sparsity-inducing penalties are applied to the general problem, and properties of the solution to the resultant non-convex problem are further studied. Based on these properties, an algorithm named Robust Projected Generalized Gradient (RPGG) is devised to solve the weakly convex problem. Theoretical results prove that the sparse signal can be precisely reconstructed by RPGG from compressive measurements with sparse noise or robustly recovered from those with impulsive noise. Meanwhile, simulations demonstrate that RPGG with tuned parameters outperforms other robust sparse recovery algorithms.

Change detection is an important task in identifying land cover change in different periods. In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, the inherent speckle noise leads to false changed points, and this affects the performance of change detection. To improve the accuracy of change detection, a novel automatic SAR image change detection algorithm based on saliency detection and convolutional-wavelet neural networks is proposed. The log-ratio operator is adopted to generate the difference image, and the speckle reducing anisotropic diffusion is used to enhance the original multitemporal SAR images and the difference image. To reduce the influence of speckle noise, the salient area that probably belongs to the changed object is obtained from the difference image. The saliency analysis step can remove small noise regions by thresholding the saliency map, and interest regions can be preserved. Then an enhanced difference image is generated by combing the binarized saliency map and two input images. A hierarchical fuzzy c-means model is applied to the enhanced difference image to classify pixels into the changed, unchanged, and intermediate regions. The convolutional-wavelet neural networks are used to generate the final change map. Experimental results on five SAR data sets indicated the proposed approach provided good performance in change detection compared to state-of-the-art relative techniques, and the values of the metrics computed by the proposed method caused significant improvement.

Multimodal medical image fusion aims to fuse images with complementary multisource information. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal medical image fusion method using pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) and a weighted sum of eight-neighborhood-based modified Laplacian (WSEML) integrating guided image filtering (GIF) in non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) domain. Firstly, the source images are decomposed by NSCT, several low- and high-frequency sub-bands are generated. Secondly, the PCNN-based fusion rule is used to process the low-frequency components, and the GIF-WSEML fusion model is used to process the high-frequency components. Finally, the fused image is obtained by integrating the fused low- and high-frequency sub-bands. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better performance in terms of multimodal medical image fusion. The proposed algorithm also has obvious advantages in objective evaluation indexes VIFF, QW, API, SD, EN and time consumption.
