This comprehensive review focuses on the most recent advances in electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) methods in the context of materials science and includes a thorough evaluation of the sample preparation procedures unique to EBSD as well as a complete examination of the important operational parameters inherent in EBSD setups. This review highlights the importance of customizing EBSD parameters for precise microstructural imaging and enhancing understanding of material behavior. While some studies have explored grain boundary characterization, stored energy, and crystallographic orientation using EBSD, there is a clear need for more comprehensive investigations to fully leverage its capabilities. Additionally, there is a significant gap in understanding the optimal choice of the reference plane in EBSD analysis, indicating the necessity for further research to improve EBSD analyses’ accuracy and efficacy. The review seeks to present a detailed and contemporary viewpoint on the many applications, sample preparation techniques, and optimal operational considerations that jointly increase the adaptability and efficacy of EBSD in materials science research by relying on the relevant literature.
Efficient machinery operation relies on the performance of high-quality lubricants. Currently, mineral oils of different grades are widely employed for lubricating machine components, but their environmental impact is a concern. Biolubricants are potential alternatives to mineral oils due to environmental factors. The present study focuses on assessing the rheological characteristics of SiO2 nanoparticle (NP)-enhanced ecofriendly biolubricants for near zero and high-temperature conditions. Pure neem oil, pure castor oil and a 50:50 blend of both oils were considered as the base oils. Nanobiolubricants with enhanced dispersion stability were prepared for varied concentrations of NPs using an ultrasonification method. Viscosity analysis was conducted using an MCR-92 rheometer, employing the Herschel Bulkley model to precisely characterize the viscosity behavior of bio-oils. Due to the fluid–solid interaction between SiO2 NPs and bio-oils, a crossover trend was observed in the flow curves generated for different base oils enriched with SiO2 NPs. For neem oil, a significant increase in viscosity was noted for 0.2 wt% of NPs. Using the multilayer perceptron (MLP) algorithm, an artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed to accurately predict the viscosity variations in nanobiolubricants. The accuracy of the predicted values was affirmed through experimental investigations at the considered nanoSiO2 weight concentrations.

Real-time position control of the journal in a hydrodynamic bearing demands continuous modification of the film thickness. Innovative adjustable bearings offer film thickness modifications in radial and circumferential directions through the flexible bearing elements. The position of the journal depends on the bearing element adjustments and the operating parameters. These adjustments also affect the static characteristic of the bearings. Hence, the position control requires an in-depth knowledge of the effects of bearing element adjustments on the bearing characteristics. In this paper, the main effect and the interaction effects of symmetric adjustment configuration of an innovative adjustable bearing at three levels are investigated through Taguchi method and ANOVA. Grey relational analysis is used to obtain the optimum bearing element adjustment. The results show that radial adjustment has the greatest influence on the attitude angle and tilt adjustment has a significant influence on the non-dimensional side leakage. The positive tilt, negative radial adjustment at 0.4 eccentricity ratio is the optimum bearing element adjustment for achieving a better static performance of innovative adjustable bearings.
A magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with magneto rheological fluid, which is controlled by a magnetic field. This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by varying the force of the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has several applications, most notably in semi-active vehicle suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are monitored through sensors in the vehicle. This paper presents magnetic saturation analysis of non-parametric model of magnetorheological (MR) damper using ANSYS for improvement of the higher force with optimal current and MATLAB/Simulink simulation for quarter car model equipped with MR damper to conduct dynamic studies of the system using skyhook controller and comparative study for passive and semi-active system.
