Honors and Awards

William Evans Fellowship

I received the William Evans Fellowship from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1996 as a result of my pioneering work on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations in human aging and mitochondrial diseases. I was offered a 8-month research fellowship to do research at the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Otago during January -August 1996. I published 3 research papers on bioenergetic defects of skin fibroblasts from patients with mitochondrial diseases with Dr. Michael P. Murphy.
