This study examines the interaction of culture and personality on how Javanese Indonesians mould their commitment by displaying loyalty or neglect behaviours. The hypotheses are tested with Structural Equation Modelling in a sample of 250 government employees. Likeability is revealed as the unique trait of respondents - that they attempt to avoid conflict and maintain harmony. Improper cultural manage-ment practices result in employees continuing “business as usual”, but their productivity is extremely low.

PurposeThis study aimed to examine and explain the role of knowledge sharing in shaping innovation culture to improve business performance and build sustainable competitive advantage. Most empirical research tended to be conducted in large companies, and there are limited studies on this topic in the SME sector. Thus, the study needs to re-examine whether the theories developed to understand large companies apply to SMEs.Design/methodology/approachThis quantitative study involved 259 respondents from a 59 sampling frame consisting of three levels of management of export SMEs in the Bali province of Indonesia. The questionnaire used to gather the data used a semantic differential scale, and the data were analyzed using SmartPLS software.FindingsThe results showed that knowledge sharing significantly influenced innovation culture, business performance and sustainable competitive advantage. Theoretically, this research provides insight into the body of knowledge in innovation culture and business performance as a mediator variable.Research limitations/implicationsCross-sectional design limits the authors from drawing definitive generalizations, and self-reported measures used in the study increase the chances of bias.Practical implicationsThe study's findings could motivate managers and practitioners to place emphasis on knowledge sharing and innovation culture in the SME sector.Originality/valueThe role of knowledge sharing has been focused on large companies in several countries. However, research examining the role of knowledge sharing in building an innovation culture is still rare in the SME sector, particularly in Indonesian SMEs. Therefore, research on this topic is needed because Indonesia has not only a different culture but also different business practices.

Customs and culture should create women’s independence to actualize themselves in an era of emerging social progress in order to lead to the domination of women in the development of creative businesses. This research examines the role of social capital and whether it becomes a supporting or hindering factor in developing the creative industry of women entrepreneurs by examining the role of information sharing and innovations. Employing purposive sampling, questionnaires were distributed to 200 women entrepreneurs, and data were analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling(PLS–SEM)software with SmartPLS Version 3.0. Social capital has a positive influence on the business performance of women entrepreneurs in Bali, Indonesia. Thus, the beliefs and norms that exist in the social capital of the Balinese Hindu concept can filter the information obtained from various information in business, which will ultimately be utilized by women entrepreneurs to create various innovations to meet the market demand. However, opportunities for women entrepreneurs are very limited to capital due to lack of guarantees to get capital, and a lack of entrepreneurship skills in the technological era, market access, bureaucracy, and legalization. Further, managerial skills, access to information technology, as well as the perspective that the men must be superior in Balinese culture and customs, make business for women entrepreneurs limited.

This paper presents a method of generating a business strategy using value chain analysis. There were 186 manufacturing and industrial enterprises from the Czech Republic. The analysis was carried out using mathematical–statistical methods (dimensional reduction, logit regression and its transformation in order to objectify the opinion level of the managers) and with a neural network in terms of validation of the results of the mathematical–statistical methods. The aim was to determine the significance of different parts of the value chain in terms of their impact on the profitability of an enterprise and to demonstrate its important role in the process of generating business strategy. The significance for the profitability of the enterprises was statistically proven in the area of scientific and technological development, input logistics and human resource management. These parts were identified by the authors as the golden triangle of manufacturing and industry. Purchasing and output logistics were identified as the parts with a negative impact to the profitability of the enterprises. Strong underestimation of scientific and technological development by the top managers of the manufacturing and industrial enterprises is seen as a very negative finding. Neural networks showed higher statistical sensitivity compared to the mathematical–statistical methods (dimensional reduction and logit regression). They defined the value sector chain with the following structure (ranked from the highest degree of positive impact on the profitability of the enterprise): human resource management, scientific and technological development, production, input logistics, purchasing, material management, output logistics, enterprise infrastructure, marketing and sales, service and other supporting services. In conclusion, it is stated that the sector value chain of manufacturing and industrial enterprises will be further decomposed into value chain models of specific industries of the production and industry, such as engineering and construction, intended for direct use in different business entities to generate their unique value chains and corporate strategies.

Human resource management (HRM) is one of the elements enabling an organization to remain competitive in turbulence conditions. The effective practice of HRM makes competent and innovative employees contributing to the achievement of organizational objectives. This study aims to analyze HRM practices in creating innovation and organizational performance. The questionnaire was used to measure the respondents’ perceptions of variables used by a Likert scale. A survey of 126 manager samples and middle managers at export-oriented short and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bali, Indonesia, was conducted to test the model. The analysis has shown that the proposed model was proven to be compliant with the research hypotheses. HRM significantly affects organizational performance and innovation, and it was found out that innovation can improve organizational performance. However, in the process of simultaneous testing, it was found out that innovation cannot improve organizational performance. The lack of attention to investments in human resources became one of the barriers to SMEs in creating innovation.

Background: Rubbish is still often treated as something that is of no use. Rubbish can provide benefits to humans. Several types of vegetable waste from the market can be used as animal feed. This study aims to get a solution to overcome the buildup of organic waste in market by creating into a pellet and find out if the animal likes the organic waste pellets. Methods: This type of research is experimental, which is a research method that uses a quantitative approach, doing three controlling activities, manipulating activities, and observation. In this study, researchers took the three types of organic waste most widely produced in the market, namely mustard, bean sprouts and spinach, were treated as pellets and were examined for their nutrient content and moisture content and were tested on experimental animals. Result: From the observations it can be seen that the pellets favored by the test animals are pellets from bean sprouts with the most pellets being eaten every day. Moreover, the most disliked by the test animals are pellets from mustard greens, this is possible because the bean sprouts pellets smell of caramel and hollow texture, while mustard pellets smell like salted fish. Conclusion: Organic waste should be collected and made into pellets so that it can be of economic value. In making mustard pellets, it should not be in a pure state but made into a mixture so that it is preferred by animals. Keyword: Organic waste, pellet, animal food

This research aims to find out the minimum concentration of A.cordifolia leaf extract that was able to kill bacteria Salmonella typhi Methods: This research is an experimental laboratory study with a research design using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in which the treatment of test bacteria is carried out with variations in concentration and contact time of the A.cordifolia leaf extract and A.cordifolia leaf using alcohol extract. The controlled variable was the concentration of A.cordifolia leaf extract with contact time variation while the response variable was the result of bacterial colony growth. For negative control applied sterilized aqua (0%) and as a comparison chloramphenicol was used. Result: The results showed that A.cordifolia which extracted by ethanol solvent killed bacteria S. Typhi at a concentration of 80% with a contact time of 10 minutes, and bacteria S. aureus at a level of 100% with a contact time of 10 minutes, whereas A.cordifolia water extract could kill bacteria S.typhi at a concentration 80% with a contact time of 20 minutes, and bacteria S. aureus at a concentration of 100% with a contact time of 20 minutes. Conclusion: A.cordifolia, which extracted by ethanol solvent, has a stronger killing power than one extracted with water solvent.
