Prefabricated building has become one of the most significant research directions in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry and has attracted a large number of scholars and practitioners in recent years. However, few studies have conducted a systematic review on the development of prefabricated building research around the world. In this study, the scientometric method is used to analyze the literature on prefabricated buildings in the past ten years through analysis of co‐authors, co‐words, and co‐citation. From the Web of Science (WOS) core collection database, a total of 1224 articles were collected for statistics and analysis. The analysis results indicated that Bruno Dal Lago obtained the maximum number of co‐citations, and the most significant country/region and research institution in prefabricated building research were China and Tongji University, respectively. It was also found that engineering, civil engineering, and construction and building technology were the top three subject categories that prefabricated building research belonged to. Among all the keywords of the collected articles, citation bursts were received by “cladding panel,” “precast concrete,” and “project.” Moreover, there were 11 co‐citation clusters identified from the articles, and their themes included precast structures, waste management, progressive collapse, delay, precast facades, carbon reduction, laser scanning, and prefabricated residential building. This paper is expected to provide researchers and practitioners in this field a detailed and in‐depth understanding of the trend and status of global research on prefabricated buildings.

Occupational stressors have long been recognized as an important risk factor for injury accidents. The mechanisms underlying the relationships among challenge stressors, hindrance stressors, safety outcomes (occupational injuries), emotional experiences (attentiveness), and job performance (task performance) were investigated from the perspectives of the challenge–hindrance stress model and the conservation of resources theory. This study collected multi-source data over two timepoints for 105 safety supervisors and 379 construction workers in China. Results revealed that both challenge and hindrance stressors were positively related to occupational injuries, but only challenge stressors were positively associated with attentiveness. In addition, occupational injuries mediated the relationship between both challenge and hindrance stressors and task performance, while attentiveness mediated only the relationship between challenge stressors and task performance. These findings contribute to our knowledge of stress management in the construction project context and provide recommendations for stress management for front-line workers at construction sites.

Smart construction has become popular because it improves the efficiency of various activities on construction sites. Data sharing is crucial for multiple stakeholders to achieve smart construction management. However, a unified framework is absent for data sharing between stakeholders. This study aims to develop a unified framework for data sharing in smart construction at the project level. A two-pronged design method is adopted to develop a unified framework for data sharing in smart construction using text analysis and semi-structured interviews. Then, a case study is incorporated for the application of the smart construction management framework. The unified framework for data sharing is developed as a five-layer architecture, consisting of the primary layers of perception, transmission, database, application, and presentation. The function modules of the unified framework include on-site monitoring, personnel, safety, quality, material, digital file, environment, and supervision, supported by the implementation of BIM, cloud computing, and IoT techniques. As illustrated in the case study, the construction period can be saved by 50 days and the cost can be saved by 4.2% after implementing the proposed framework in the project. This study provides a benchmark for related studies on data management and collaborative innovation from various industries and stakeholders. Also, a useful framework has been developed by identifying the key elements, defining the primary functions, and developing the essential layers based on structural consistency.

Multiple policies have been formulated to promote the development of prefabricated building (PB). However, ineffective policies increase the financial burden of the governments and hinder PB development. This study aims to identify effective policies and develop a practical policy framework to encourage developers to implement PB. Text analysis is to identify the policies related to PBs from the numerous samples. A survey is to verify the effective policies and explore their effects on the developers’ willingness to implement PBs. The findings suggest that the current policy system of PBs is complete but uneven, focusing on environmental policies. The most cost-effective tools are land limitations, tax incentives, and financial support. Besides, policies are interrelated in affecting developers’ willingness to implement PBs. It provides a reference for policy evaluation in application scenarios, which expands the literature research on the policy. Meanwhile, it provides a guide for policymakers to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and formulate practical policy frameworks to promote PB development.

Confronted with unexpected events, project resilience is significant for megaproject delivery success. A fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis is used to explore the practical configuration conditions for project resilience in 81 megaprojects. The findings verify the complementary effect of social capital and dynamic capabilities on project resilience and reveal that the antecedent configuration conditions for proactive and reactive resilience differ. Our study broadens the literature on antecedents of project resilience and expands their complex relationship based on resource-based and dynamic-capability views. Moreover, it provides practical strategies to improve megaprojects’ proactive and reactive resilience.

Building information modeling (BIM) has been attracting increasing attention in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry in recent years. The wide spread of BIM marks the transition from 2D and paper-based archiving to 3D and digital archiving of project information. However, the commonly used centralized managing approaches for BIM data have high risks of data loss and data tampering. With cryptographic algorithms and distributed databases, blockchain has the potential to address the limitations of data loss and trust in conventional BIM management methods. Therefore, this paper proposes a blockchain-based framework for digital archiving of BIM data. In this paper, the axiomatic design approach is utilized to design the archiving framework in order to systematically map the design parameters with the functional requirements and minimize the information contents. The proposed framework contains five modules, including the BIM module, building plan approval (BPA) module, building data simplification (BDS) module, distributed data storage (DDS) module, and digital document verification (DDV) module. Hyperledger Fabric is utilized to develop the blockchain system based on the proposed framework. In the end, a simple BIM model with 240 components and around 11,000 lines of content in the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file is taken as an illustrative example to validate the proposed blockchain approach. By storing the BIM model on to the developed blockchain, it is found that each transaction of a blockchain can store over 5000 lines of IFC contents with 0.09 s of uploading latency. The results show that the proposed blockchain-based approach can effectively and securely archive BIM data.
