The utilization of solar photovoltaic (PV) generator as a power source for wire feeder systems (WFSs) of arc welding machines is one of the promising domains in solar PV applications. This article proposes a new type of welding WFS and investigates the PV penetrated energy systems. The proposed system comprises of a solar PV generator, a DC/DC buck converter, and a permanent magnet DC (PMDC) motor. The power of the proposed standalone solar photovoltaic-wire feeder system (PV-WFS) can be widely improved using an intelligent fractional-order fuzzy proportional integral derivative (FO-Fuzzy-PID) regulator based on perturbing and observe (P&O) MPPT method. In this article, a FO-Fuzzy-PID regulator is also designed for a PMDC motor driven welding WFS system. Which will then control the wire feed rate of the welding WFS system. Furthermore, the dynamic reaction of the proposed solar PV-WFS depends on the coefficients of these FO-Fuzzy-PID regulators, which are adjusted by a meta-heuristic tuning algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. The proposed strategy is tested using MATLAB simulations and experimentally verified in real-time on a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing platform using a dSPACE 1104 board-based laboratory setup. Simulation and experimental results are acceptable and demonstrate the effectiveness, precision, stability, and dynamic reaction of the suggested optimized wire feeder regulating system and the considered intelligent P&O MPPT technique.

This article proposes a multifunction of a double stage grid connected photovoltaic (PV) system, with insertion the active power filter (APF) functionalities. This system is used to compensate the harmonics currents, compensate reactive power, supply the nonlinear loads and inject the PV system's active power into grid. This study is based on grid side, a perturb and observe algorithm is used to extract the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) from the PV array regardless of solar irradiance. On the grid side, a modified instantaneous active and reactive power theory (P-Q) based on a multi-variable filter (MVF) is applied to correctly identify the harmonics currents reference under distorted source voltage condition, also a modified predictive current control (PCC) algorithm is used to generate the switching signals for the source voltage inverter in order to ensure compensate reactive power and harmonic currents, feed the non linear load and inject the surplus of active powerinto the grid. In Matlab/Simulink™ software environment, the performance of the proposed control scheme is investigated under load change and irradiance change conditions. Simulations results demonstrate that the proposed PCC of the APF ensure a manage of active power exchanges with the grid with power factor correction. Furthermore, the grid current recovers its sinusoidal waveform with a total harmonic distortion (THD) meet to IEEE-519 standard.

This study proposes a way of designing a reliable voltage controller for buck DC/DC converter in which the terminal attractor approach is combined with an enhanced reaching law-based Fast Terminal Synergetic Controller (FTSC). The proposed scheme will overcome the chattering phenomena constraint of existing Sliding Mode Controllers (SMCs) and the issue related to the indefinite time convergence of traditional Synergetic Controllers (SCs). In this approach, the FTSC algorithm will ensure the proper tracking of the voltage while the enhanced reaching law will guarantee finite-time convergence. A Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) structure is exploited here to approximate the unknown converter nonlinear dynamics due to changes in the input voltage and loads. The Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) weights are adjusted according to the adaptive law in real-time to respond to changes in system uncertainties, enhancing the increasing the system’s robustness. The applicability of the proposed controller, i.e., the Adaptive Fuzzy-Neural Fast Terminal Synergetic Controller (AFN-FTSC), is evaluated through comprehensive analyses in real-time platforms, along with rigorous comparative studies with an existing FTSC. A dSPACE ds1103 platform is used for the implementation of the proposed scheme. All results confirm fast reference tracking capability with low overshoots and robustness against disturbances while comparing with the FTSC.

Design and Experimental Validation of a Digital Predictive Controller for Variable-Speed Wind Turbine Systems Maximum power point tracking (MPPT);Model predictive control (MPC);Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG);Wind energy conversion system (WECS); Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.
