Dr. Asmaa Mourhir has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah Fès. She is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, where she has worked since 2003. She has contributed to various research and development projects, including one funded by Maroc Telecom to develop a SoftPhone over IP/SIP telephony networks and another funded by Al Akhawayn University to develop an environmental decision support system using an expert system. Professor Mourhir was an active member of the Communications & Systems laboratory. She is currently a permanent member of the ICT, AI and DX research group at Al Akhawayn University, and the Computer Sciences, Imaging and Digital analysis Laboratory (LIIAN) at the FSDM (Faculté des Sciences Dhar El Mahraz, Fès). Her previous research interests include environmental modeling and decision making using soft computing techniques. Her current research interests include the use of Artificial Intelligence, Sensor Networks, and Embedded Machine Learning in smart cities to address environmental issues such waste detection or urban smart water management using computer vision. She is also the lead of a pioneering Darija Natural Language Processing structure entity in Morocco that develops Natural Language Processing models in the Moroccan dialect that can be leveraged also for enhancing inclusion and citizen participation in decision making processes.
