The main aim of this article is to present the modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the possibilities for real-time remote monitoring of flight parameters and payload data. In the introduction section of the paper we briefly present the characteristics of the UAVs and which are their major application areas. Later, the main parameters and the various data types for remote control and monitoring of the unmanned aerial vehicles are presented and discussed. The paper continues with the methods and the technologies for transmission of these parameters and then presents a general hardware model for data transmission and a software model of a communication system suitable for UAVs.

Wildfires pose significant risks to ecosystems, human lives, and infrastructure, necessitating advanced predictive tools to mitigate their impacts. This study presents a machine learning-based framework for wildfire susceptibility mapping (WSM), designed as a predictive tool for wildfire occurrence. Using geographical information systems (GIS), a comprehensive dataset was developed by combining fourteen critical factors, including climatic, topographic, vegetation, and human activity data, from diverse sources. Four ML methods—Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Neural Network (NN), and XGBoost—were applied and compared. The results show that the XGBoost model (with an AUC of 0.96) generated the best susceptibility map. Validation using 2024–2025 fire occurrences (MODIS and Protection Civile data) showed that 87.73% of fire events were correctly captured within high and very high susceptibility zones, confirming the robustness of the proposed model. Feature importance analysis revealed that human activities, precipitation, and temperature were the most influential in wildfire prediction. These findings provide valuable insights into wildfire dynamics and contribute to the development of more effective fire prevention and mitigation strategies.

The early detection of dementia, a condition affecting both individuals and society, is essential for its effective management. However, reliance on advanced laboratory tests and specialized expertise limits accessibility, hindering timely diagnosis. To address this challenge, this study proposes a novel approach in which readily available biochemical and physiological features from electronic health records are employed to develop a machine learning-based binary classification model, improving accessibility and early detection. A dataset of 14,763 records from Phachanukroh Hospital, Chiang Rai, Thailand, was used for model construction. The use of a hybrid data enrichment framework involving feature augmentation and data balancing was proposed in order to increase the dimensionality of the data. Medical domain knowledge was used to generate inter-relation-based features (IRFs), which improve data diversity and promote explainability by making the features more informative. For data balancing, the K-Means Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (K-Means SMOTE) was applied to generate synthetic samples in under-represented regions of the feature space, addressing class imbalance. Extra Trees (ET) was used for model construction due to its noise resilience and ability to manage multicollinearity. The performance of the proposed method was compared with that of Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbors, Artificial Neural Networks, Random Forest, and Gradient Boosting. The results reveal that the ET model significantly outperformed other models on the combined dataset with four IRFs and K-Means SMOTE across key metrics, including accuracy (96.47%), precision (94.79%), recall (97.86%), F1 score (96.30%), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (99.51%).

As a result of the thermo-mechanical impact during welding, distortions are generated in welded structures. These distortions significantly influence the geometric and dimensional accuracy of welded structures, in many cases lowering their working characteristics and reliability. An optimal design for welded structures is a prerequisite for increased reliability and reduction in manufacturing cost, and such an optimal design can be achieved knowing the distortions in weldments. Despite the fact that pulsed metal inert gas welding and metal active gas welding have been broadly applied in the last few decades, nowadays, few manufacturers, for instance, Fronius, EWM, Redco, and Perfect Power Welders, offer such an option for manual arc welding. This work aims to determine the influence of the parameters of pulsed welding modes on distortions that are generated during manual arc welding. Two different inverter welding power sources were used, and the welding distortions were measured by 3D scanning. The results showed that the pulsed mode during manual arc welding led to a reduction in distortions compared to the conventional welding mode. The crucial part of the manual welding system proved to be the qualification and performance of the welder.

The early diagnosis of dementia, a progressive condition impairing memory, cognition, and functional ability in older adults, is essential for timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. This study proposes a novel multiclass classification that differentiates dementia from other comorbid conditions, specifically cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure and aortic valve disorder, by leveraging the “blessing of dimensionality” to enhance predictive performance while ensuring feature accessibility. Using a dataset of 26,474 electronic health records from two hospitals in Chiang Rai, Thailand, the proposed framework introduced clinically informed feature augmentation to enhance model generalizability. Furthermore, the borderline synthetic minority oversampling technique was employed to address class imbalance, enhancing the model’s performance for minority classes. This study systematically evaluated a suite of machine learning models, including extreme gradient boosting, gradient boosting, random forest, support vector machine, decision trees, k-nearest neighbors, extra trees, and TabNet, across both the original and enriched datasets, with the latter integrating augmented features and synthetic data. Predictive performance was assessed using accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, and area under the precision–recall curve. The results revealed that all the models exhibited consistent performance improvements with the enriched dataset, affirming the value of dimensionality when guided by domain expertise.
