Harapan completed his M.D. from the School of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh; and his Master in Infectious Diseases (M.Infect.Dis) and PhD from the School of Biomedical Sciences, the University of Western Australia. He received his Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (D.T.M.&H.) from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok. He is an Associate Editor for BMC Public Health, and has acted as a reviewer in some journals, including PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, PLoS ONE, BMC Infectious Diseases, BMC Public Health, BMC Health Service, BMJ Open, Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics & Outcomes Research, Future Virology, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, and other journals. He is a member of the American Society for Virology, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the Australian Society for Microbiology. His fields of interest include virology, as well as molecular biology and public health aspects of infectious diseases.
