Patrick E. Phelan is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and associate dean of graduate programs at Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. He received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University in 1985, his M.S. degree in Mechanical
Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California in 1990. He served for four years in Washington, D.C., as the manager of the Emerging Technologies Program at the U.S. Department of Energy, Building Technologies Office. Previously, he served as the manager of the Thermal Transport Processes
Program at the National Science Foundation. He researches and teaches in the areas of sustainable energy, thermal transport, and sustainable cooling.
