Food packaging plays a vital role in the food supply chain by acting as an additional layer to protect against food contamination, but the main function of traditional conventional packaging is only to isolate food from the outside environment, and cannot provide related information about food spoilage. Intelligent packaging can feel, inspect, and record external or internal changes in food products to provide further information about food quality. Importantly, intelligent packaging indicators will account for a significant proportion of the food industry’s production, with promising application potential. In this review, we mainly summarize and review the upcoming progress in the classification, preparation, and application of food packaging indicators. Equally, the feasibility of 3D printing in the preparation of intelligent food packaging indicators is also discussed in detail, as well as the limitations and future directions of smart food packaging. Taken together, the information supported in this paper provides new insights into monitoring food spoilage and food quality.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural glycosaminoglycan found in the human body, particularly in the extracellular matrix of body fluids and tissues. It plays a critical role in cellular processes of living organisms by maintaining tissue hydration, cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammatory response. HA exhibits significant biological activity in skin care, aesthetic anti-aging, medical orthopedic repair, gynecological cancer monitoring, and other pathological conditions. Due to its exceptional biocompatibility, biodegradability, lack of toxicity, non-immunogenicity, and its capacity to bond with other substances, various HA-based biomedical products like hydrogels, microneedles, and microspheres have been developed. These innovations have also been applied in various medical and health fields, such as bone and tissue regeneration, gels for medical aesthetic fillers, and gynecology-related cancer treatment, utilizing the HA drug delivery pathway. The interest in HA and its products is increasing due to their biological functions. Therefore, this review aimed to summarize the biological properties of HA and to focus on its applications in the bone tissue engineering and healthcare, for HA has some practical applications of HA-based complexes in biomedical materials, tissue repair, medical aesthetics, and gynecology. Through this review, we seek to offer theoretical research assistance for the development of HA-based bioproducts in the healthcare domain and provide innovative insights for human health.

Appearance and processing characteristics of 45 japonica rice samples, collected from different regions in Jiangsu province, were investigated and evaluated in this study. Specifically, the chalkiness degree had been presented significant differences among different cultivars and regions. The average chalkiness degree varied from 6.81% to 15.34% for different regions and from 1.93% to 28.31% for different cultivars. The minimum head rice rate of cultivars from four regions, NJ9108 (HA), was 80.5%. The AC of CNG10, HD5, and PJ surpassed 13.68% and lower than 11.33% for the others. The protein content ranged from 6.1% to 11%, and the taste value was significantly different among cultivars. In addition, the RVA curves of the samples were similar, but the peak viscosities of NG8 and NJ5055 were higher than others, and there were significant differences in RVA traits among regions. Cultivars were the main reasons for the difference in appearance and processing quality of japonica rice, while environmental factors had leaded to the change of rice composition, texture, and gelatinization.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a prevalent metabolic bone disease globally. Currently, the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) resources to unblock joints, strengthen bones, and enhance muscle function to regulate anti‐osteogenic and anabolic metabolism and thus reshape intraosseous homeostasis was an effective way to alleviate OP. The F–E–D formula, comprising Fructus Psoraleae, Eucommia, and Drynariae Rhizoma, has shown efficacy in treating OP. However, its complex natural components necessitate the screening and simplification of bioactive compounds to further elucidate their therapeutic mechanisms and enhance therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we first used drug–target binding to produce different effects, which in turn exhibited different retention characteristics on the stationary phase. Using osteoblasts and osteoclasts as stationary phases, a chromatographic system (Solid‐phase Bio‐cell Chromatography, SBC) had been constructed to mimic the drug–target interaction, and the separation, analysis, and bioactivity screening of the chemical components of F–E–D had been performed. Then, the above collected eluates were analyzed by fine metabolomics, and 95 effective metabolites were initially screened and combined with database screening to finally select betaine, L‐fucose, and itaconic acid as potentially active candidate compound monomers for the interaction with osteoblast–osteoclast in F–E–D. In terms of cell validation experiments, we found that the screened active monomers significantly inhibited the formation of osteoclasts, and the itaconic acid–treated group played a significant inhibitory effect on the expression of inflammatory factors TNF‐α and IL‐6. The above experimental data showed that the monomeric active ingredients in TCM could be effectively screened by solid‐phase bio‐chromatography and HPLC–MS, and the in vitro cellular experiments verified that the active monomers of TCM slowed down the progression of OP by inhibiting osteoclast production and alleviating the expression of inflammation.
