The paper aims at describing two dimensions of acquirers’ behaviour when purchasing minority shares in Romanian listed target companies, based on a sample of 710 Romanian minority acquisitions. The first dimension regards the acquirer’s decision to invest a certain amount, being influenced by the profitability of the target company The relationship was found to be positive and significant. To test the model further, a sample of 308 transactions was used, after excluding the transactions involving primary sector and blue-chip target companies. The second dimension focuses on the amount of purchased stake, which leads to either financial gains or the takeover intention, under the influence of the target company’s operational profit. The results show a positive and significant relationship for the small stakes and a non-significant one for the high stakes.

Brexit has undeniably had effects on power relations in the world economy and beyond. This article aims to measure the dimensions of power for the European Union, the United States and the BRICS countries and to provide a case study about the prospective impact of Brexit on the EU’s and the UK’s positions within the global architecture of power. In this regard, the paper proposes a new method of measurement of the world power by using six dimensions of power, using data before the Brexit procedures started. The highlights of the empirical findings are that the exclusion of the UK has strengthened EU’s position only for the economic dimension of power, while for the UK, the most dominant repositioning within the power architecture due to the Brexit is recorded for the political & governance. The findings can contribute to raising awareness among policy–makers, companies, institutions and the population, both at European and at national level, about populist tendencies and attitudes towards potential separations of some member countries from the European community and their consequences for the European development from multiple perspectives.

Based on monthly-recorded data for the 1990-2014 period related to output growth and inflation, we use heteroskedastic models in order to estimate the nominal and real uncertainty in Romania. Real uncertainty is derived from output growth volatility and nominal uncertainty is derived from inflation volatility. Of the 12 possible hypotheses regarding causal relationships between output growth, inflation, nominal uncertainty and real uncertainty, we consider 7 hypotheses for which we find strong theoretical arguments and empirical evidence in literature. In order to ensure the robustness of the results, the Granger-causality tests are performed for 4, 8 and 12 lags, which are then used to test 7 economic hypotheses.
