Peter Little is currently Professor Emeritus at The University of Queensland, Hon. Visiting Professor at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute and Dean (Visit) of the Dept. of Pharmacy at Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, Guangdong Pr., China.
Peter completed a Pharmacy Degree at Monash University then undertook a Ph. D. in Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, followed by postdoctoral training at the NIH in the USA. Peter returned to Australia and joined the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and Alfred Health in Melbourne. Peter has been an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow. Peter’s research areas have been ion transport relating to hypertension and, more recently, atherosclerosis in the setting of diabetes and pharmacy practice.
Peter has published 249 peer reviewed papers with >10,000 citations and an h index of 57.
In late 2010, Peter established a new School of Pharmacy at RMIT University in Melbourne. Peter was appointed Head of the School of Pharmacy (2015-2020) at UQ. Peter has been National President of Diabetes Australia (2003-2006), Founding Secretary, and later President (2010-2013), of the Australian Vascular Biology Society, and President (2017-2020) of the Council of Heads of Pharmacy Schools of Australia and New Zealand.
Peter was awarded an Order of Australia (AM) (2007) for services to people with diabetes through voluntary executive roles at Diabetes Australia and for research into the causes and treatment of diabetes.
