Dr. Shafiqur Rehman earned his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in wind energy from the University of Pretoria, Pretoria, South Africa in 2012 and MS and BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and AMU, Aligarh, India. Rehman was honoured with the "Best Researcher" award in 2007 and 2012 by the university and a national “Almarai Prize" in 2017. He is a Research Engineer-II at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (IRC-SES), King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He has been mainly involved in wind and solar power resource assessments, wind speed and related parameter measurements using 40–100-meter-tall towers and LiDARS, design of wind farms and PV power plants for isolated and grid connected applications, and design and optimization of hybrid power systems (Wind-Diesel, PV-Diesel, Wind-PV-Diesel). Rehman is the author of 300+ papers published in refereed ISI journals and refereed conference proceedings. He has participated in the writing of more than 120 technical reports and more than 65 research proposals. He has developed many technical research ideas and also prepared service quotations. He has around 17400 citations with an h-index of 63 and i10-index of 190. He has also received best paper awards and has been invited as keynote speaker at international refereed conferences. Last but not least, he has nine US patents to his credit.
