Anawat Suppasri received the B.Eng. degree in civil engineering from Chulalongkorn University; M.Eng. degree in water engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; and Ph.D. degree in tsunami engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, in 2005, 2007, and 2010, respectively. During 2010-2012, he was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Disaster Control Research Center, Tohoku University. He is currently an Associate Professor with the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University. He serves as the editor for many journals including Coastal Engineering Journal, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Geoscience Letters, and Geosciences His awards and honors include Coastal Engineering Journal Citation Award, Nakasone Yasuhiro Award, Hazard 2000 Award, JAMSTEC Nakanishi Award, Hodaka Prize, etc. His research interests include tsunami numerical modeling, tsunami generation mechanism, tsunami damage field survey, tsunami vulnerability, tsunami hazard and risk evaluation, and disaster prevention education.
