Matej Makarovič is a professor of sociology at the School of Advanced Social Studies in Nova Gorica and the Dean of the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. He obtained his M.A. from Lancaster University/Central European University (1995) and his Ph.D. from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (1999). His recent research on social transformations deals with the trends regarding reflexivity and its relation to individuals’ resilience against disinformation, social and environmental responsibility, and sustainable development. He has also touched on issues of migrant and social entrepreneurship. He is a Jean Monnet Chair in the field of European transnational governance for sustainable development and a co-chair of the Research Network on Sociology of Social Transformations within the European Sociological Association. Since 2012, he has been the president of the National Committee for the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) at the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO.
