Stylianos Fakas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food and Animal Sciences
at Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama, USA. He received his Ph.D. in Food
Biotechnology from the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, and completed
postdoctoral training at Rutgers University, where he worked on the
biochemistry and regulation of phosphatidate phosphatase in Saccharomyces
cerevisiae. His research focuses on the biochemistry and molecular biology
of lipid metabolism in yeasts, with emphasis on the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia
lipolytica. His laboratory investigates the enzymes and regulatory
mechanisms that govern triacylglycerol biosynthesis, including phosphatidate
phosphatase (Pah1) and ATP-citrate lyase, using a combination of biochemical,
genetic, and multi-omics approaches.
