Due to the potential of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), they began to be increasingly used in various fields such as: environment, leisure, health, military, transport, etc. Along with increasing battery storage capacity, the UAVs began to be propulsion by Brushless DC (BLDC) motors. Failure of BLDC motors can lead to loss of control, which can cause accidents. In these conditions, it is necessary to devise methods that can find the defects of the BLDC motors in the UAVs. In this article, the authors propose a novel method to predict BLDC motor defects using machine learning. To maximize the method results, the performance of three machine learning models, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Bayesian Network (BN) in predicting the flaws of BLDC motors, have been compared.
Over the past decade, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have begun to be increasingly used due to their untapped potential. Li-ion batteries are the most used to power electrically operated UAVs for their advantages, such as high energy density and the high number of operating cycles. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) and the prediction of the Li-ion batteries’ capacity to prevent the UAVs’ loss of autonomy, which can cause accidents or material losses. In this paper, the authors propose a method of prediction of the RUL for Li-ion batteries using a data-driven approach. To maximize the performance of the process, the performance of three machine learning models, Support Vector Machine for Regression (SVMR), Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), and Random Forest (RF), were compared to estimate the RUL of Li-ion batteries. The method can be implemented within UAVs’ Predictive Maintenance (PdM) systems.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have started to be used more and more due to the benefits they bring. Failure of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle components may result in loss of control, which may cause property damage or personal injury. In order to increase the operational safety of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, the implementation of a Predictive Maintenance system using the Internet of Things is required. In this paper, the authors propose a new architecture of Predictive Maintenance system for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles that is able to identify the fault type of Brushless DC electric motor and determine the Remaining Useful Life of the Li-ion batteries. In order to create the Predictive Maintenance system within the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, an architecture based on Fog Computing was proposed and Machine Learning was used to extract knowledge from the data. The proposed architecture was practically validated.
The goal of this paper's research is to develop learning methods that promote the automatic analysis and interpretation of human and mime-gestural movement from various perspectives and using various data sources images, video, depth, mocap data, audio, and inertial sensors, for example. Deep neural models are used as well as supervised classification and semi-supervised feature learning modeling temporal dependencies, and their effectiveness in a set of tasks that are fundamental, such as detection, classification, and parameter estimation, is demonstrated as well as user verification. A method for identifying and classifying human actions and gestures based on utilizing multi-dimensional and multi-modal deep learning from visual signals (for example, live stream, depth, and motion - based data). A training strategy that uses, first, individual modalities must be carefully initialized, followed by gradual fusion (called ModDrop) to learn correlations between modalities while preserving the uniqueness of each modality specific representation. In addition, the suggested ModDrop training approach assures that the classifier detect has weak inputs for one or maybe more channels, enabling these to make valid predictions from any amount of data points accessible modalities. In this paper, inertial sensors (such as accelerometers and gyroscopes) embedded in mobile devices collect data are also used.
Two-handed dynamic gesture recognition represents a fundamental component of sign language interpretation involving the modeling of temporal dependencies and inter-hand coordination. In this task, a major challenge is modeling asymmetric motion patterns, as well as bidirectional and long-range temporal dependencies. Most existing frameworks rely on early fusion strategies that merge joints, keypoints or landmarks from both hands in early processing stages, primarily to reduce model complexity and enforce a unified representation. In this work, a novel dual-stream BiLSTM–Transformer model architecture is proposed for two-handed dynamic sign language recognition, where parallel encoders process the trajectories of each hand independently. To capture spatial and temporal dependencies for each hand, an attention-based cross-hand fusion mechanism is employed, with hand landmarks extracted by the MediaPipe Hands framework as a preprocessing step to enable real-time CPU-based inference. Experimental evaluation conducted on custom Romanian Sign Language dynamic gesture datasets indicates that the proposed dual-stream-based system outperforms single-handed baselines, achieving improvements in high recognition accuracy for asymmetric gestures and consistent performance gains for synchronized two-handed gestures. The proposed architecture represents an efficient and lightweight solution suitable for real-time sign language recognition and interpretation.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) generation suffers from multiple serious issues, for example shading effects directly affect the performance of installed PV arrays. By studying these issues, it can play a key role in improving the limitations and performance of PV panels. The study of PV arrays under partial shading conditions is mentioned in many papers as a part of other studies and as an independent phenomenon. Therefore, it is essential to improve these studies and update them with new research and study this problem in detail to know how to limit the effects of partial shading irradiance conditions on PV arrays performances, including economical aspects. This paper proposes to study the effects of different partial shading irradiance conditions for a PV array in various configurations. The analysis is proved in detail through the simulation of the proposed PV array in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The obtained results show the performances of interconnected PV arrays under different partial shading irradiance and temperature conditions, including the solar array I-V and P-V characteristics. In addition, different PV array configurations with and without bypass and blocking protection diodes improve and minimize the effect of partial shading conditions and avoid the reductions in output power.
