Geostationary satellites observe the earth surface and atmosphere with a short repeat time, thus, providing aerosol parameters with high temporal resolution, which contributes to the air quality monitoring. Due to the limited information content in satellite data, and the coupling between the signals received from the surface and the atmosphere, the accurate retrieval of multiple aerosol parameters over land is difficult. With the strategy of taking full advantage of satellite measurement information, here we propose a neural network AEROsol retrieval framework for geostationary satellite (NNAeroG), which can potentially be applied to different instruments to obtain various aerosol parameters. NNAeroG was applied to the Advanced Himawari Imager on Himawari-8 and the results were evaluated versus independent ground-based sun photometer reference data. The aerosol optical depth, Ångström exponent and fine mode fraction produced by the NNAeroG method are significantly better than the official JAXA aerosol products. With spectral bands selection, the use of thermal infrared bands is meaningful for aerosol retrieval.

The growth year of ginseng is very important as it affects its economic value and even defines if ginseng can be used as medicine or food. In the case of large-scale developments in the ginseng industry, a set of non-destructive, fast, and nonprofessional operations related to the growth year identification method is needed. The characteristics of ginseng reflectance spectral data were analyzed, and the growth year recognition model was constructed by a decision-tree-based random forest machine learning method. After independent verification, the accuracy of distinguishing ginseng food and medicine can reach 92.9%, with 6-year growth as the boundary, and 100%, with 5-year growth as the boundary. The research results show that the spectral change of ginseng is the most obvious in the fifth year, which provides a reference for the key research years based on chemical analyses and other methods. For the application of growth year recognition, the NIR band (1000–2500 nm) had little contribution to the recognition of ginseng growth years, and the band with the largest contribution was 400–650 nm. The recognition model based on machine learning provides a non-destructive, fast, and simple scheme with high accuracy for ginseng year recognition, and the spectral importance analysis conclusion of ginseng growth years provides a design reference for the development of special lightweight spectral equipment for year recognition.

Cloud cover is an important factor limiting the earth observation efficiency of optical imaging satellites. Existing solutions include avoiding cloudy observation time windows by onboard cloud detectors and ground monitors, which are difficult to improve satellite observation efficiency in time. In order to solve the problem, firstly, a Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites cooperation scheme by using cloud cover information provided by GEO meteorological satellite to guide the imaging of LEO optical satellites is proposed, and the operation flow and key elements in this scheme are analyzed. Secondly, Fengyun-4 GEO meteorological satellite and its cloud mask (CLM) products are analyzed. Thirdly, an autonomous mission planning algorithm based on real-time cloud cover information is proposed. Computational results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed GEO–LEO satellites cooperation scheme by taking the actual orbit and payload data of Fengyun-4 and Gaofen-1/2 satellites as examples.

The difficulty of atmospheric correction based on a radiative transfer model lies in the acquisition of synchronized atmospheric parameters, especially the aerosol optical depth (AOD). At the moment, there is no fully automatic and high-efficiency atmospheric correction method to make full use of the advantages of geostationary meteorological satellites in large-scale and efficient atmospheric monitoring. Therefore, a QUantitative and Automatic Atmospheric Correction (QUAAC) method is proposed which can efficiently correct high-spatial-resolution (HSR) satellite images. QUAAC uses the atmospheric aerosol products of geostationary satellites to match the synchronized AOD according to the temporal and spatial information of HSR satellite images. This method solves the problem that the AOD is difficult to obtain or the accuracy is not high enough to meet the demand of atmospheric correction. By using the obtained atmospheric parameters, atmospheric correction is performed to obtain the surface reflectance (SR). The whole process can achieve fully automatic operation without manual intervention. After QUAAC applied to Gaofen-2 (GF-2) HSR satellite and Himawari-8 (H-8) geostationary satellite, the results show that the effect of QUAAC correction is slightly better than that of the Fast Line-of-sight Atmospheric Analysis of Spectral Hypercubes (FLAASH) correction, and the QUAAC−corrected surface spectral curves have good coherence to that of the synchronously measured by field experiments.

Small Target Detection and Identification (TDI) methods for Remote Sensing (RS) images are mostly inherited from the deep learning models of the Computer Vision (CV) field. Compared with natural images, RS images not only have common features such as shape and texture but also contain unique quantitative information such as spectral features. Therefore, RS TDI in the CV field, which does not use Quantitative Remote Sensing (QRS) information, has the potential to be explored. With the rapid development of high-resolution RS satellites, RS wind turbine detection has become a key research topic for power intelligent inspection. To test the effectiveness of integrating QRS information with deep learning models, the case of wind turbine TDI from high-resolution satellite images was studied. The YOLOv5 model was selected for research because of its stability and high real-time performance. The following methods for integrating QRS and CV for TDI were proposed: (1) Surface reflectance (SR) images obtained using quantitative Atmospheric Correction (AC) were used to make wind turbine samples, and SR data were input into the YOLOv5 model (YOLOv5_AC). (2) A Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) was added to the YOLOv5 network to focus on wind turbine features (YOLOv5_AC_CBAM). (3) Based on the identification results of YOLOv5_AC_CBAM, the spectral, geometric, and textural features selected using expert knowledge were extracted to conduct threshold re-identification (YOLOv5_AC_CBAM_Exp). Accuracy increased from 90.5% to 92.7%, then to 93.2%, and finally to 97.4%. The integration of QRS and CV for TDI showed tremendous potential to achieve high accuracy, and QRS information should not be neglected in RS TDI.

We consider wireless multi-hop networks in which each node aims to securely transmit a message. To guarantee the secure transmission, we employ an independent randomization encoding strategy to encode the confidential message. We aim to maximize the network utility. Based on the finite length of a secrecy codewords strategy, we develop an improved control algorithm, subject to network stability and secrecy outage requirements. On the basis of the Lyapunov optimization method, we design an control algorithm, which is decomposed into end-to-end secrecy encoding, flow control and routing scheduling. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a utility result that is arbitrarily close to the optimal value. Finally, the performance of the proposed control policy is validated with various network conditions.
