Xavier Manteca Vilanova received his BVSc and PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare from the University of Edinburgh. Currently, he is a professor of animal behavior and animal welfare at the School of Veterinary Science in Barcelona. He has published extensively and is a diplomate of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine. Xavier’s main areas of expertise are zoo-animal welfare and, in particular, welfare assessment.
