A shaking table test for a bridge foundation reinforced with the front and back rows of anti-slide piles on a gravel soil slope was designed. The test results were obtained by loading El Centro waves with different peak accelerations. It was not an advantage for the deformation of bridge pile foundation while the distance between the front-row anti-slide piles and pier was large. The back-row anti-slide piles played a major role in seismic reinforcement, and the peak bending moment of the pile shaft and the peak earth pressure behind the pile had a triangular distribution. The distance from the crack to the sliding surface of the anti-slide pile was approximately one fifth of the length of the anchoring section. As the crack propagated, the bearing capacity of the pile shaft decreased gradually. Since the influence of pier inertia force and soil horizontal thrust, a peak negative bending moment and a peak positive bending moment were observed near the pile top and the sliding surface respectively. The rate of attenuation of the bending moment from the top of the pile along its depth was related to the resistance of the soil around the pile. The stress-induced deformation of the pile foundation behind the pier was larger than that in front of the pier. The peak ground acceleration (PGA) amplification factor of the slope had a vertical amplification effect and a layered distribution. The acceleration responses of the sliding section and the steep slope section were strong, while the acceleration responses of the region between the bridge pier and the back-row anti-slide piles were weak. With the increase in the vibration intensity, the soil damping ratio increased and the PGA amplification factor decreased. The feasibility of analyzing the acceleration response of the slope model by the two-dimensional equipotential map was experimentally verified.

The three-section courtyard is the most representative traditional residence in the traditional villages in northeast Sichuan. As a unique cultural landscape, it carries the local historical style and cultural connotation. However, the high temperature weather in summer leads to a poor thermal environment in traditional residential buildings, which cannot meet the needs of building users for human thermal comfort, and the wall is the most critical factor affecting the indoor thermal environment. Therefore, to optimise the indoor thermal environment of traditional residential buildings, this study designed four groups of wall renovation schemes according to the original traditional residential buildings and modern technology, and simulated and verified the feasibility of the building renovation schemes by using Design Builder. Then, the four groups of wall renovation schemes were compared and tested based on the Design Builder. Comparative results of the thermal-performance evaluation index revealed that compared with Case 1 and Case 2, the building refrigeration energy consumption of Case 3 in the hottest week was the least, only 427.7 kW·h, which indicates that the external wall renovation scheme using aerated concrete blocks had the best thermal insulation and energy-saving effects. The cooling energy consumption of Case 4 in the hottest week was 422 kW·h, which was 4.3 kW·h less than that of Case 3, indicating that the wall renovation scheme with an air inter-layer had better thermal insulation and energy-saving effects. The refrigeration energy consumption of Case 7 in the hottest week was only 409.8 kW·h, which was 4.19% lower than Case 3 (without insulation material), indicating that the scheme of selecting central insulation and extruded polystyrene board (XPS) had better thermal insulation and energy-saving effects in practical projects. In summary, the above transformation scheme not only improves the indoor thermal environment of traditional residential buildings, but also provides guidance for architectural designers on green, energy-saving and sustainable design.

Purpose: The protection of traditional grassroots place-making knowledge and skills that comprise valuable intangible heritage has not been attracting enough attention in the field of post-disaster reconstruction and recovery. Based on the Guchengping Village’s reconstruction that followed the Lushan earthquake (Sichuan, China), the purpose of this paper is to identify the benefits of a co-design approach for post-disaster reconstruction and recovery, in order to ascertain various stakeholders’ contributions toward the protection of community-based intangible place-making heritage.Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative method was employed to assist the professional designers in facilitating the co-design approach by bridging governments closer together with local communities. At the governmental level, focus groups and personal interviews were conducted to discover the government’s role in preserving the communities’ intangible heritage. At the community level, community-based workshops and family-based design partnerships engaged various community stakeholders to decipher their roles and contributions toward advancing the heritage age.Findings: As the advocates of intangible heritage, all levels of government guaranteed that intangible heritage would be safeguarded in the government strategic plans. At the community level, local residents played a fundamental role as the grassroots protectors. Professional designers utilized cutting edge technologies to improve weaknesses found in the traditional knowledge and skills, by performing the protection in practice. Community-based service agencies promoted the value of heritage to address societal issues.Originality/value: The co-design approach offered a new method of intangible heritage protection in post-disaster reconstruction and recovery by engaging different stakeholders, in order to effectively transfer the governmental strategic plans into community-based action plans, and in turn, enabled the grassroots voice to inform the government policies.

Slate dwellings are known as the “living fossil of primitive dwellings” in China. Energy-saving strategies are crucial to slate dwellings for sustainability as well as maintaining thermal comfort. In this research, a subjective satisfaction analysis on the indoor thermal environment in Daziliang village, China, was conducted. It was found that neutral temperature is 20.92 °C in summer, 8.92 °C in winter, and the actual operating temperature in winter is too low to meet the 80% acceptable range. Therefore, a series of improvement strategies in winter were proposed. The results showed that adding external thermal insulation material—expanded polystyrene board with a thickness of 80 mm on the roof and outside walls—and sunspace depth of 1.5 m are better in terms of energy-saving effects. In addition, the slate dwelling’s daily energy-saving rate of the heating day is 44.26% lower than the original state through these strategies. The air temperature of Bedroom D in winter non-heating days increases by 3.82 °C after improvement and the mean radiant temperature increased by 2.54 °C. Our approach puts forward specific energy-saving improvement measures and provides feasible suggestions for the protection and development of slate dwellings in this area.

With the rapid development of the national economy, increasing attention has been given to the living environment in rural areas, especially indoor thermal and wind environments. This study conducted onsite measurements and questionnaire surveys during summer in the indoor environment of five villages in northeastern Sichuan. A total of 89 traditional residences were selected to investigate their fundamental characteristics, indoor thermal environment, humidity conditions and comfort levels. The results showed that when expressed as neutral temperature and humidity, the temperature difference was 1.35°C and the humidity difference was 8.14%. Local residents exhibited higher tolerance toward the local thermal and humidity environment compared to nonlocal volunteers, who displayed greater sensitivity toward it. In addition, local residents had a thermal comfort value of 0.03 and a thermal acceptance value of 1.16, whereas nonlocal volunteers had a thermal comfort value of 1.42 and a thermal acceptance value of −0.45.

The development of rural tourism industry not only brings an expanded revenue model in the Chinese tourism market, but also requires the improvement of rural infrastructure, the quality of tourism service, and establishment of local rural characteristics. Therefore, how could the governmental interventions supervise the entire rural tourism industry development, in order to promote rural tourism business, achieving sustainable development goal? Based on the current rural tourism situation in Chongzhou and certain investigation, this paper proposes the remarkable development concept of innovation, coordination, greening, opening, and sharing. The authors analyzed the local rural tourism and generalized some prospects. This will stimulate the further study in this field and benefit the prospective development of rural tourism in Chongzhou.r
