Background: Work-related injuries remain a considerable global burden; nevertheless, progress in occupational safety has been made in decreasing the time to return to work. This study aimed to assess the pooled incidence of Return to Work (RTW) among workers with occupational injuries and to identify the key factors influencing RTW outcomes. Methods: A systematic review was conducted by searching electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, Web of Science, and Scopus) to include eligible cohorts. Meta-analysis was undertaken using R software 4.5.1 with random-effects models, and heterogeneity was evaluated using the I2 statistic. Results: This meta-analysis included 16 cohorts, with 4164 workers. A pooled analysis of 14 studies showed that 79% of workers successfully returned to their jobs after treatment for work-related injuries (95% CI: 0.67–0.88; p < 0.0001; I2 = 97.5%). Meta-regression identified age as a significant moderator, with older workers showing a higher incidence of RTW. The mean time to RTW, pooled from 9 studies, was approximately 102 days, with no significant age association (p = 0.222). Regarding predictors, male workers had a significantly higher RTW rate than females (p < 0.0001). Married persons showed greater RTW rates (p < 0.0001). Also, workers with higher education levels were more likely to return to work (p = 0.0033). For injury type, lacerations were related to a greater RTW rate than crushing injuries. Conclusions: This meta-analysis underscored a significant overall return-to-work rate after work-related injuries, with age, sex, marital status, education level, and injury type affecting results. Advanced age and male sex were substantially correlated with increased return-to-work rates. These findings support the necessity for personalized rehabilitation programs and focused support to enhance work reintegration following occupational accidents.

Honey production has been an integral part of the UAE’s heritage. Vachellia tortilis and Ziziphus spina-christi pollen and nectar are essential components of high-quality UAE honey. These plants are integral to Emirati culture, showcasing a legacy of ecological balance and medicinal uses. In addition to their cultural significance, V. tortilis and Z. spina-christi offer substantial pharmacological and ecological value. This review explores the role of V. tortilis and Z. spina-christi in producing honey rich in bioactive compounds with antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, highlighting their therapeutic potential in addressing infectious and chronic diseases. Furthermore, the diversity of phytochemicals in the honey from these plants supports their use in pharmaceutical advancements, including cancer and antibacterial treatments. Their apicultural importance is also emphasized, particularly in supporting sustainable honey production systems adapted to arid environments. The eco-friendly production of silver nanoparticles from Z. spina-christi demonstrates their versatility for health and agriculture. By exploring views on honey authenticity, advanced extraction methods, and the medicinal benefits of honeybee products, this study promotes these species’ conservation and sustainable use. The study emphasizes the contributions of V. tortilis and Z. spina-christi to ecological stability, public health, and economic growth. It presents a compelling case for leveraging their potential to advance sustainable apiculture and ecosystem management in arid regions.

Background: Healive is an inactivated vaccine for hepatitis A virus developed in China and was found to be well-tolerated and highly immunogenic in adults and children. It is our aim this study to compare the safety and immunogenicity of Healive® with Havrix® and live attenuated vaccines in pediatric populations. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing Healive with other vaccines were included. Results: Seven RCTs involving 3664 patients were included. Healive showed comparable efficacy to Havrix regarding seroconversion rates and GMT at one month (SMD = 0.24, 95% CI [-0.11 to 0.59]), but achieved better results at six (SMD = 0.85, 95% CI [0.57 to 1.07]) and seven months (SMD = 0.55, 95% CI [0.41 to 0.70]). When compared to live attenuated vaccines, Healive demonstrated superior GMT at one month (SMD = 0.31, 95% CI [0.07 to 0.56]) and two years (SMD = 0.36, 95% CI [0.06 to 0.67]). Conclusion: Healive appears to be effective and safe for preventing hepatitis A, providing at least five years of protection. This review underscores the importance of ongoing research to optimize hepatitis A vaccination strategies, including standardized assays for antigen content, clarification of protective antibody levels, and large-scale trials in regions of intermediate endemicity.

Background: Variceal bleeding is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with cirrhosis. While both transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) and endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) are utilized for variceal rebleeding prevention, their comparative efficacy and safety remain debated. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to compare TIPS with EVL for variceal rebleeding prevention. A comprehensive search of electronic databases on PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science identified 16 studies meeting inclusion criteria. Data on outcomes including gastrointestinal bleeding, variceal rebleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, treatment failure, and mortality were extracted and analyzed. Results: TIPS was associated with significantly lower rates of gastrointestinal bleeding (RR = −0.69, 95% CI [−0.92, −0.47], P < 0.001), variceal rebleeding (RR: −0.99, 95% CI [−1.2, −0.79], P < 0.001), and bleeding from banding ulcers (RR: −1.51, 95% CI [−2.75, −0.27], P = 0.02) compared to EVL. However, TIPS was linked to higher rates of hepatic encephalopathy (RR: 0.44, 95% CI [0.18, 0.71], P < 0.001) and treatment failure (RR: −1.29, 95% CI [−2.01, −0.57], P < 0.001). No significant differences were found in mortality, liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma, or other clinical outcomes between the two interventions. Conclusion: TIPS demonstrates superiority over EVL in reducing variceal rebleeding and gastrointestinal bleeding. However, it is associated with higher rates of hepatic encephalopathy and treatment failure. Individualized treatment decisions should consider patient characteristics and treatment goals to optimize outcomes in variceal bleeding management. Further research is warranted to refine treatment strategies and minimize adverse events associated with both interventions.
