Sustainable urban water management is essential to handle water scarcity, leakage, and inefficient distribution. This paper covers water management in urban areas, including an introduction, an overview of water management practices, the characteristics and functioning of water distribution systems, monitoring and control systems for efficient distribution, smart systems for optimization, strategies for water conservation and waste management, per capita water demand analysis, and desalination plant overviews. The article proposes a blockchain-based water management architecture with IoT sensors for accurate reporting. The framework uses blockchain technology to authenticate and share real-time data between sensors and the water distribution dashboard. It also has a modular API for water leakage detection and flow control to decrease water waste and enhance distribution. The suggested approach might enhance water management; however, its execution is complex. Maintaining the framework’s efficacy is advised. The research provides insights into water management and proposes a technology solution employing blockchain and IoT sensors for trustworthy data reporting and effective water distribution to promote sustainable urban water management.
Blockchains are gaining traction as secure and reliable platforms for data sharing in fields such as banking, supply chain management, food production, energy, the Internet, and medical services. Furthermore, when decentralized, a blockchain can be regarded as an immutable ledger storing data entries. Moreover, this modern technology was designed to disrupt various data-driven industries, including the healthcare industry. While electronic healthcare services have enabled more straightforward and accessible treatment, patient privacy has become vulnerable to external and internal attacks by healthcare personnel. Therefore, we aimed to design a framework to control patient health records that ensures the patient can provide the necessary permissions to those who access his/her health records. This framework will record all activities via blockchain and usage control. Through this framework, we aim to create a user-centric and privacy-aware experience. A literature review and experiments have been performed to select an optimized and placable blockchain operating system. In addition, performance analysis showed that the OS and smart contracts work at an acceptable speed.
Various Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in water resource management highlight the current methodologies’ strengths and limitations in forecasting, optimization, and control. We identify a gap in integrating these diverse approaches for enhanced water prediction and management. We critically analyze the existing literature on artificial neural networks (ANNs), deep learning (DL), long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, machine learning (ML) models such as supervised learning (SL) and unsupervised learning (UL), and random forest (RF). In response, we propose a novel framework that synergizes these techniques into a unified, multi-layered model and incorporates a digital twin and a multi-modal transformer approach. This integration aims to leverage the collective advantages of each method while overcoming individual constraints, significantly enhancing prediction accuracy and operational efficiency. This paper sets the foundation for an innovative digital twin-integrated solution, focusing on reviewing past works as a precursor to a detailed exposition of our proposed model in a subsequent publication. This advanced approach promises to redefine accuracy in water demand forecasting and contribute significantly to global sustainability and efficiency in water use.
IoT technology and drones are indeed a step towards modernization. Everything from field monitoring to pest identification is being conducted through these technologies. In this paper, we consider the issue of smart pest detection and management of cotton plants which is an important crop for an agricultural country. We proposed an IoT framework to detect insects through motion detection sensors and then receive an automatic response using drones based targeted spray. In our proposed method, we also explored the use of drones to improve field surveillance and then proposed a predictive algorithm for a pest detection response system using a decision-making theory. To validate the working behavior of our framework, we have included the simulation results of the tested scenarios in the cup-carbon IoT simulator. The purpose of our work is to modernize pest management so that farmers can not only attain higher profits but can also increase the quantity and quality of their crops.
In the domain of computer forensics, ensuring the integrity of operations like preservation, acquisition, analysis, and documentation is critical. Discrepancies in these processes can compromise evidence and lead to potential miscarriages of justice. To address this, we developed a generic methodology integrating each forensic transaction into an immutable blockchain entry, establishing transparency and authenticity from data preservation to final reporting. Our framework was designed to manage a wide range of forensic applications across different domains, including technology-focused areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing, as well as sector-specific fields like healthcare. Centralizing our approach are smart contracts that seamlessly connect forensic applications to the blockchain via specialized APIs. Every action within the forensic process triggers a verifiable transaction on the blockchain, enabling a comprehensive and tamper-proof case presentation in court. Performance evaluations confirmed that our system operates with minimal overhead, ensuring that the integration bolsters the judicial process without hindering forensic investigations.
Smart devices are enabled via the Internet of Things (IoT) and are connected in an uninterrupted world. These connected devices pose a challenge to cybersecurity systems due attacks in network communications. Such attacks have continued to threaten the operation of systems and end-users. Therefore, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) remain one of the most used tools for maintaining such flaws against cyber-attacks. The dynamic and multi-dimensional threat landscape in IoT network increases the challenge of Traditional IDS. The focus of this paper aims to find the key features for developing an IDS that is reliable but also efficient in terms of computation. Therefore, Enhanced Grey Wolf Optimization (EGWO) for Feature Selection (FS) is implemented. The function of EGWO is to remove unnecessary features from datasets used for intrusion detection. To test the new FS technique and decide on an optimal set of features based on the accuracy achieved and the feature taking filters, the most recent FS approach relies on the NF-ToN-IoT dataset. The selected features are evaluated by using the Random Forest (RF) algorithm to combine multiple decision trees and create an accurate result. The experimental outcomes against the most recent procedures demonstrate the capacity of the recommended FS and classification methods to determine attacks in the IDS. Analysis of the results presents that the recommended approach performs more effectively than the other recent techniques with optimized features (i.e., 23 out of 43 features), high accuracy of 99.93% and improved convergence.
