Mobile edge computing (MEC) is an emerging computing paradigm for enabling low-latency, high-bandwidth and agile mobile services by deploying computing platform at the edge of network. In order to improve the cloud-edge-end processing efficiency of the tasks within the limited computation and communication capabilities, in this article, we investigate the collaborative computation offloading, computation and communication resource allocation scheme, and develop a collaborative computing framework that the tasks of mobile devices (MDs) can be partially processed at the terminals, edge nodes (EN) and cloud center (CC). Then, we propose the pipeline-based offloading scheme, where both MDs and ENs can offload computation-intensive tasks to a particular EN and CC, according to their computation and communication capacities, respectively. Based on the proposed pipeline offloading strategy, a sum latency of all MDs minimization problem is formulated with the consideration of the offloading strategy, computation resource, delivery rate and power allocation, which is a non-convex problem and difficult to deal with. To solve the optimization problem, by using the classic successive convex approximation (SCA) approach, we transform the non-convex optimization problem into the convex one. Finally, simulation results indicate that the proposed collaboration offloading scheme with the pipeline strategy is efficient and outperforms other offloading schemes.

For millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication systems, a lens antenna array with single-carrier transmission and path delay compensation is a promising technique for realizing cost-effective large multiple-input multiple-output communications with limited number of radio frequency chains. In this paper, we study the multi-user mm-wave downlink lens antenna array system for the general frequency-selective channels. By leveraging the angle-dependent energy focusing property of the lens antenna array and the angular sparsity of mm-wave channels, we investigate the low-complexity single-carrier transmission scheme with path delay pre-compensation applied at the base station (BS). The resulting signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) is derived by taking into account both the residual inter-symbol interference and inter-user interference. Based on the derived SINR expression, we propose an effective joint antenna selection and beamforming scheme by utilizing the group sparse optimization to accommodate for the limited number of RF chains at the BS. Thus, the proposed scheme can obtain the approximate performance with the fully digital case and has a better performance than the conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing mode for the frequency-selectivity channels. Numerical results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

The fundamental intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) deployment problem is studied for IRS-aided downlink multi-user communication system, where IRSs are arranged to be deployed in a specific area for enhancing the desired signal and suppressing interference. Specifically, we aim to maximize the minimum achievable rate over all locations in a specific area by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming at the access point (AP) as well as the placement and reflective beamforming at the IRS. The formulated problem is non-convex and thus difficult to be solved directly. To draw essential insights, we first consider the single-user case and the optimal solution is derived in closed-form. The result shows that the optimal locations are in the connecting line between the AP and user, and the IRSs can be optimally deployed along the connecting line. Besides, a hybrid offline and online design scheme is developed for the multi-user case, where an area discretization strategy and deep neural network (DNN)-based curve fitting technique are proposed for optimizing the IRS locations in the offline manner. Then, an online iterative algorithm is presented to solve the transmit and received beamformig vectors, respectively. Numerical results show that the performance gain is increased by optimizing the IRS locations.

This paper investigates the achievable rate region of the multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel aided by intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs). We exploit the additional design degree of freedom provided by the coordinated IRSs to enhance the desired signal and suppress interference so as to enlarge the achievable rate region of the interference channel. To this end, we jointly optimize the active transmit beamforming at the transmitters and passive reflective beamforming at the IRSs, subject to the constant modulus constraints of reflective beamforming vectors. To address the non-convex optimization problem, we propose an iterative algorithm to optimize the transmit beamforming via second-order cone program (SOCP) and the reflective beamforming via the semi-definite relaxation (SDR). Numerical results demonstrate that the performance of the IRS-aided interference channel with the proposed algorithm can significantly outperform the conventional interference channel without IRS.
To fully exploit both multiplexing gain and array gain of massive multiple-input-multipleoutput (MIMO), the channel state information must be obtained accurately at transmitter side (CSIT). However, conventional channel estimation solutions are not suitable for frequency-division duplexing (FDD) multiuser massive MIMO because of overwhelming pilot and feedback overhead. To reduce the pilot and feedback overhead of channel estimation in FDD systems, we propose a compressive channel estimation scheme for FDD massive MIMO systems in this paper, where the beam-blocked sparsity of massive MIMO channels in beamspace is leveraged. Particularly, we first propose a beam-blocked compressive channel estimation scheme, which can reduce the overhead for downlink training. Then, an optimal block orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm at the BS is proposed to acquire reliable CSIT from the limited number of pilots. Furthermore, an efficient algorithm for channel matrix recovery from separately quantized amplitude and phase of received signals is developed to efficiently decrease feedback load. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme outperforms conventional solutions.

In millimeter wave (mmWave) communication systems, hybrid analog/digital precoding with single-carrier transmission and time delay compensation is a promising technique for realizing the cost-effective large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications with limited radio frequency (RF) chains. This paper studies the mmWave downlink with fully connected MIMO architecture system for the general frequency-selective channels. By leveraging the fact that the mmWave channels are likely to be sparse in the directions and the signal propagation is usually dominated by the line of sight path, we investigate the low-complexity single-carrier transmission scheme with time delay precompensation applied at the base station (BS). The resulting signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) is derived in terms of the precoding vectors by taking into account both the residual intersymbol interference and interuser interference. Based on the derived SINR expression, we first propose a codebook based precoding scheme, then develop an effective joint codeword selection and precoding algorithm by utilizing the group sparse approaches to accommodate a limited number of RF chains at the BS. Numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes, showing that the proposed scheme achieves a performance close to the fully digital system.
