Correlations and path analysis between characteristics can aid the selection of important attributes in breeding programs. Thus, the objective of this work was to perform genotypic, phenotypic correlations and path analysis under commercial yield of garlic bulbs, depending on morphological and agronomic variables. The experiment was carried out in 2017 at the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri and Universidade Federal de Lavras, using ten garlic genotypes, eight trials and two commercial cultivars, Caçador and Jonas. We evaluated: plant height; number of leaves, total bulb number; total bulb mass, total bulb yield, marketable bulb yield and number of cloves per bulb. The genotypic and phenotypic correlations were positive and significant between marketable yield of bulbs with bulb mass, total yield and number of cloves per bulb, indicating that selection based on these characteristics will help increase the yield of garlic. However, only the number of cloves per bulb had a direct effect and a relevant indirect effect on the marketable yield of garlic.

The objective of this study was to examine the molecular and phenotypic variability of 'Prata Anã' banana clones cultivated in northern Minas Gerais State. For the phenotypic and molecular characterization, the clones were collected from five properties. The morphological characterization of 20 clones was accomplished through a qualitative evaluation of 74 descriptors. For the molecular evaluations, 45 clones were collected, and 14 Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA primers were used. Among the 74 morphological descriptors evaluated in the 20 'Prata Anã' banana tree clones, 53 descriptors presented in the same homogeneous class for all clones. The presence of anthocyanin in the pseudostem (ANT) and the shape (BUS) and flexion (FLX) of the bunch clearly differentiated the 'Prata Anã' banana clones from the commercial cultivar. A total of 176 bands were produced from the molecular analysis using the 14 RAPD primers; there were 116 monomorphic and 60 polymorphic bands, with an average polymorphism percentage of 52.2%. The amplification using the OPP 14 primer resulted in the greatest percentage of polymorphic bands at 88%. The dendrogram indicated that each of the 45 'Prata Anã' clones that were evaluated using RAPD markers clustered with the commercial 'Prata Anã' cultivar.

Brazil is among the four largest global food producers and is a significant consumer of pesticides. However, the current management of pesticide residues in Brazil faces substantial challenges, including fragmented data, limited access to reliable information, and weak inter-institutional coordination. These shortcomings hinder effective monitoring and enforcement. This study evaluates the existing framework for managing pesticide residues in food, water, and soil in Brazil, identifying gaps and proposing strategies for improvement. Key recommendations include the establishment of an inter-institutional steering committee, the development of a unified digital platform for data sharing, and the implementation of a National Pesticide Residue Management Programme (NPRMP). The NPRMP would define measurable targets to reduce contamination in food and the environment, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and enhance the monitoring of pesticide residues. Capacity-building through continuous professional training and public education campaigns is essential to ensure the programme’s successful implementation. Financial resources may be drawn from various sources, including budgetary allocations by the federal government; donations from individuals or legal entities, whether public or private, domestic or international; funds from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT); and contributions from the National Environmental Fund. This integrated approach aims to reinforce regulatory mechanisms, safeguard public health, and ensure environmental conservation within the context of Brazil’s expanding agricultural sector.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculants of endophytic bacteria producing indoleacetic acid (IAA) on the physiological quality of seeds and the production of seedlings of Corymbia citriodora (Hook.) KD Hill & LAS Johnson. In the physiological quality test of the seeds, the treatments used were individual inoculation with Priestia megaterium, Exiguobacterium sibiricum, Pantoea vagans strain 45URP4-1, and Bacillus sp.; joint effect of the four strains (mix); inoculation only with the carrier (cassava starch and activated charcoal); carrier with 1.0 μg mL−1 of IAA; and non-inoculated control without IAA and without a carrier. In the production of seedlings in a greenhouse, the treatments were the same, except for the mix, which was replaced by P. vagans strain 7URP1-6 (Pvs7), as inoculation with the mix increased the number of abnormal seedlings. In the physiological quality test of seeds, seeds inoculated with the bacteria individually did not have the physiological quality impaired and the carrier created a microenvironment around the seeds, benefiting germination percentage, germination speed index, average germination time, and average germination speed. In the greenhouse, seedlings inoculated with Pvs7, P. megaterium and E. sibiricum were taller, with a larger stem diameter and dry mass of shoot, roots, and total. Seeds inoculated with E. sibiricum had higher averages for height, chlorophyll b content, and shoot and total dry mass, as well as a greater ability to colonize the rhizosphere and roots of C. citriodora, resulting in the production of higher-quality seedlings. Inoculation of seeds of C. citriodora with endophytic bacteria proved to be a promising alternative for plant development.
