In this paper, the impact of future climate changes on long-term hydropower generation (LTHG) of cascade hydropower stations in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River is discussed. Global climate models (GCM) were used to estimate the impacts of future climate changes, the Xinanjiang model (XAJ) was applied to project the streamflow of the hydropower stations, and then gravitational search algorithm (GSA) was adopted to solve the LTHG problem. In case studies, the validation of the XAJ model shows that it perform well in the projection of streamflow in the Jinsha River. Moreover, the future hydropower generation is simulated based on five different GCMs under three climate change scenarios. Finally, the GSA algorithm is used to obtain a set of schemes under the influence of climate change. The results show that future climate changes are expected to have different impact on power generation of cascade reservoirs in the downstream of the Jinsha River when the climate change scenarios are different. These findings can provide decision support for future water resources management of the Jinsha River.
This paper presents a kernel fuzzy clustering with a novel differential harmony search algorithm to coordinate with the diversion scheduling scheme classification. First, we employed a self-adaptive solution generation strategy and differential evolution-based population update strategy to improve the classical harmony search. Second, we applied the differential harmony search algorithm to the kernel fuzzy clustering to help the clustering method obtain better solutions. Finally, the combination of the kernel fuzzy clustering and the differential harmony search is applied for water diversion scheduling in East Lake. A comparison of the proposed method with other methods has been carried out. The results show that the kernel clustering with the differential harmony search algorithm has good performance to cooperate with the water diversion scheduling problems.
In this paper, a gradient-based cuckoo search algorithm (GCS) is proposed to solve a reservoir-scheduling problem. The classical cuckoo search (CS) is first improved by a self-adaptive solution-generation technique, together with a differential strategy for Lévy flight. This improved CS is then employed to solve the reservoir-scheduling problem, and a two-way solution-correction strategy is introduced to handle variants’ constraints. Moreover, a gradient-based search strategy is developed to improve the search speed and accuracy. Finally, the proposed GCS is used to obtain optimal schemes for cascade reservoirs in the Jinsha River, China. Results show that the mean and standard deviation of power generation obtained by GCS are much better than other methods. The converging speed of GCS is also faster. In the optimal results, the fluctuation of the water level obtained by GCS is small, indicating the proposed GCS’s effectiveness in dealing with reservoir-scheduling problems.
