Remote sensing change detection (RSCD) focuses on identifying regions that have undergone changes between two remote sensing images captured at different times. Recently, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown promising results in the challenging task of RSCD. However, these methods do not efficiently fuse bitemporal features and extract useful information that is beneficial to subsequent RSCD tasks. In addition, they did not consider multilevel feature interactions in feature aggregation and ignore relationships between difference features and bitemporal features, which, thus, affects the RSCD results. To address the above problems, a difference-guided multiscale aggregation attention network, DGMA2-Net, is developed. Bitemporal features at different levels are extracted through a Siamese convolutional network and a multiscale difference fusion module (MDFM) is then created to fuse bitemporal features and extract, in a multiscale manner, difference features containing rich contextual information. After the MDFM treatment, two difference aggregation modules (DAMs) are used to aggregate difference features at different levels for multilevel feature interactions. The features through DAMs are sent to the difference-enhanced attention modules (DEAMs) to strengthen the connections between bitemporal features and difference features and further refine change features. Finally, refined change features are superimposed from deep to shallow and a change map is produced. In validating the effectiveness of DGMA2-Net, a series of experiments are conducted on three public RSCD benchmark datasets [LEVIR building change detection dataset (LEVIR-CD), Wuhan University building change detection dataset (BCDD), and Sun Yat-Sen University dataset (SYSU-CD)]. The experimental results demonstrate that DGMA2-Net surpasses the current eight state-of-the-art methods in RSCD. Our code is released at https://github.com/yikuizhai/DGMA2-Net .

Automatic segmentation of breast cancer lesions in dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging is challenged by low accuracy of delineation of the infiltration area, variable structure and shapes, large intensity heterogeneity changes, and low boundary contrast. This study constructed a two-stage breast cancer image segmentation framework and proposes a novel breast cancer lesion segmentation model (TR-IMUnet). The benchmark U-Net network model enables a rough delineation of the breast area in the acquired images and eliminates the influence of unrelated tissues (chest muscle, fat, and heart) on breast tumor segmentation. Based on the extracted results of the region of interest, the rectified linear unit (ReLU) function of the encoding–decoding structure in the model was replaced by an improved ReLU function to reserve and adjust the data dynamically according to input information. The segmentation accuracy of breast cancer lesions was improved by embedding a multi-scale fusion block and a transformer module in the coding path of the model, thereby obtaining multi-scale and global attention information. The experimental results showed that the breast tumor segmentation indexes Dice coefficient (Dice), Intersection over Union (IoU), Sensitivity (SEN), and Positive Predictive Value (PPV) increased by 4.27, 5.21, 3.37, and 3.68%, respectively, relative to the U-Net reference model. The proposed model improves the segmentation results of breast cancer lesions and reduces small area mis-segmentation and calcification segmentation.

Facial beauty prediction (FBP) has become an emerging area in the field of artificial intelligence. However, the lacks of data and accurate face representation hinder the development of FBP. Multi-task transfer learning can effectively avoid over-fitting, and utilize auxiliary information of related tasks to optimize the main task. In this paper, we present a network named Multi-input Multi-task Beauty Network (2M BeautyNet) and use transfer learning to predict facial beauty. In the experiment, beauty prediction is the main task, and gender recognition is the auxiliary. For multi-task training, we employ multi-task loss weights automatic learning strategy to improve the performance of FBP. Finally, we replace the softmax classifier with a random forest. We conduct experiments on the Large Scale Facial Beauty Database (LSFBD) and SCUT-FBP5500 database. Results show that our method has achieved good results on LSFBD, the accuracy of FBP is up to 68.23%. Our 2M BeautyNet structure is suitable for multiple inputs of different databases.

Owing to the complexity of finger vein patterns in shape and spatial dependence, the existing methods suffer from an inability to obtain accurate and stable finger vein features. This paper, so as to compensate this defect, proposes an end-to-end model to extract vein textures through integrating the fully convolutional neural network (FCN) with conditional random field (CRF). Firstly, to reduce missing pixels during ROI extraction, the method of sliding window summation is employed to filter and adjusted with self-built tools. In addition, the traditional baselines are endowed with different weights to automatically assign labels. Secondly, the deformable convolution network, through replacing the plain counterparts in the standard U-Net mode, can capture the complex venous structural features by adaptively adjusting the receptive fields according to veins’ scales and shapes. Moreover, the above features can be further mined and accumulated by combining the recurrent neural network (RNN) and the residual network (ResNet). With the steps mentioned above, the fully convolutional neural network is constructed. Finally, the CRF with Gaussian pairwise potential conducts mean-field approximate inference as the RNN, and then is embedded as a part of the FCN, so that the model can fully integrate CRF with FCNs, which provides the possibility to involve the usual back-propagation algorithm in training the whole deep network end-to-end. The proposed models in this paper were tested on three public finger vein datasets SDUMLA, MMCBNU and HKPU with experimental results to certify their superior performance on finger-vein verification tasks compared with other equivalent models including U-Net.

Face recognition (FR) with single sample per person (SSPP) is a challenge in computer vision. Since there is only one sample to be trained, it makes facial variation such as pose, illumination, and disguise difficult to be predicted. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a scheme combined traditional and deep learning (TDL) method to process the task. First, it proposes an expanding sample method based on traditional approach. Compared with other expanding sample methods, the method can be used easily and conveniently. Besides, it can generate samples such as disguise, expression, and mixed variation. Second, it uses transfer learning and introduces a well-trained deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model and then selects some expanding samples to fine-tune the DCNN model. Third, the fine-tuned model is used to implement experiment. Experimental results on AR face database, Extend Yale B face database, FERET face database, and LFW database demonstrate that TDL achieves the state-of-the-art performance in SSPP FR.

Background: For the encoding part of U-Net3+,the ability of brain tumor feature extraction is insufficient, as a result, the features can not be fused well during up-sampling, and the accuracy of segmentation will reduce. Methods: In this study, we put forward an improved U-Net3+ segmentation network based on stage residual. In the encoder part, the encoder based on the stage residual structure is used to solve the vanishing gradient problem caused by the increasing in network depth, and enhances the feature extraction ability of the encoder which is instrumental in full feature fusion when up-sampling in the network. What’s more, we replaced batch normalization (BN) layer with filter response normalization (FRN) layer to eliminate batch size impact on the network. Based on the improved U-Net3+ two-dimensional (2D) model with stage residual, IResUnet3+ three-dimensional (3D) model is constructed. We propose appropriate methods to deal with 3D data, which achieve accurate segmentation of the 3D network. Results: The experimental results showed that: the sensitivity of WT, TC, and ET increased by 1.34%, 4.6%, and 8.44%, respectively. And the Dice coefficients of ET and WT were further increased by 3.43% and 1.03%, respectively. To facilitate further research, source code can be found at: https://github.com/YuOnlyLookOne/IResUnet3Plus. Conclusion: The improved network has a significant improvement in the segmentation task of the brain tumor BraTS2018 dataset, compared with the classical networks u-net, v-net, resunet and u-net3+, the proposed network has smaller parameters and significantly improved accuracy.
