This study was conducted to determine the yield and quality of ‘Dwarf Cavendish’ banana (Musa spp. AAA), cultivated in open fields and also in protected (plastic greenhouse) cultivation. The site is located in the central south coastal region (altitude 50 m, latitude 36°33'N) of Turkey. In both cultivation systems we determined the following: pseudostem circumference, pseudostem height, total leaf number, bunch stalk circumference, days from shooting to harvest, number of hands, number of fingers, finger circumference, finger length, and bunch weight. Protected cultivation was found to be better than open‐field cultivation in terms of total production, expressed as the number of hands and fingers per bunch and bunch weight. Average annual yield under plastic greenhouse was 53% higher than in the open field (65.5 t/ha compared with 42.8 t/ha).

In this study, the traditional full/deficit irrigation and partial root drying (F-PRD) techniques with the four different amounts of irrigation (100%, 80%, 60% and 40%) were examined on Rubygem Strawberry species under controlled greenhouse conditions, in terms of yield, yield parameters, WUE, IWUE, yield response factor (ky), etc. and their possible reactions have been investigated. In the study in which fresh seedlings were used, planted on the rows in a triangular form at intervals of 20×20 cm in double rows. Irrigation applications were carried out by drip irrigation method and the amount of irrigation water in the control treatment (I100) was calculated using measurements taken from an A-Class evaporation pan. Eight irrigation treatments including four traditional irrigation (I100, I80, I60, I40) and four fixed-partial root drying (F-PRD100, F-PRD80, F-PRD60, F-PRD40) were examined within the scope of the study. In traditional irrigation (I100, I80, I60, I40) applications, both sides of the plant root zone were irrigated. However, during the entire growing season in the fixed-partial root drying (F-PRD100, F-PRD80, F-PRD60, F-PRD40) technique, one-half of the plant root zone was kept wet, and the other half was left relatively dry. The yield values were ranked as, from high to low, F-PRD100>I100>F-PRD80>I80>F-PRD60>I60>I40>F-PRD40. In irrigation treatments, the yield values obtained from I80 and F-PRD80 treatments were statistically similar (Duncan 5%) to the yield values of I100 and F-PRD100 treatments. However, it could be stated that the F-PRD80 is more advantageous. It was found that different amounts of irrigation water (100%, 80%, 60% and 40%) affects the yield and yield-related parameters obtained from the strawberry plants. In general, as the water deficit increased (in the I40 and F-PRD40 treatments), the level of negative impact also increased. As a result of the research, F-PRD80 was proposed for the cultivation of strawberries, particularly, in arid and semi-arid regions, depending on the availability of water.

Tissue culturing, which is an alternative method to clonal reproduction of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) has started to become widespread in recent years. However, the browning of tissue resulting from the oxidation of phenolic compounds is one of the most important factors limiting success in the in vitro reproduction of avocados. Therefore, in this study, the effects of different antioxidants (activated charcoal (AC), ascorbic acid (ASA), citric acid (CA) alone or in combination with each other on browning and regeneration of avocado shoots, grown under in vitro conditions, were investigated. In the study, MS (Murashige and Skoog) nutrient medium with 1 mg L-1 BAP, 0.1 mg L-1 GA3 and 3% sucrose was used in all treatments. Moreover, antioxidants alone or combined with each other with different concentrations were used in the nutrient media in all treatments except the control. As a result of the research, the lowest browning intensity and the highest survival rate values were shown in the application of 100 mg L-1 ascorbic acid (ASA) alone and in the combination of 60 mg L-1 ascorbic acid (ASA) and 40 mg L-1 citric acid (CA). Furthermore, maximum shoot length (2.8 cm) and maximum leaf number (6.4) in terms of survival rate of the explants, shoot length and number of leaves were determined in MS nutrient medium containing a combination of 60 mg L-1 ascorbic acid (ASA) and 40 mg L-1 citric acid (CA).

This study aimed to investigate the morphological characteristics and performance of Formosa and Sunrise Solo papaya cultivars under protected cultivation in subtropical climate conditions as well as the relationships between the yield and factors affecting the yield. The Formosa cultivars had higher values in terms of plant height (519.4 cm), stem diameter (238.4 mm), first flowering height (138.2 cm), and duration from flowering to harvest (141 days) compared to the Sunrise Solo cultivars. The yield per plant was higher in the Formosa cultivars (52.5 kg/plant/year) than in the Sunrise Solo cultivars (27.4 kg/plant/year). The values of fruit peel color parameters were highest in the spring, the fruit flesh firmness was highest in the autumn, and the soluble solid content was higher in fruits harvested in the summer. Medium to high positive phenotypic correlations were found between the first flowering height and fruit set, fruit weight, yield, fruit width, fruit length, and fruit flesh firmness (0.371–0.595) and between the fruit set (number/plant) and fruit weight, yield, fruit width, fruit length, and fruit flesh firmness (0.388–0.819) (p ≤ 0.01). The papaya can be commercially cultivated under protected cultivation in extreme subtropical conditions, and the Formosa cultivars generally performed better than the Sunrise Solo cultivars across many parameters.
