To efficiently and accurately track the Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP) of the PV system under Varying Environmental Conditions (VECs), numerous hybrid Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques were developed. In this research work, different hybrid MPPT techniques are categorized into three types: a combination of conventional algorithms, a combination of soft computing algorithms, and a combination of conventional and soft computing algorithms are discussed in detail. Particularly, about 90 hybrid MPPT techniques are presented, and their key specifications, such as accuracy, speed, cost, complexity, etc., are summarized. Along with these specifications, numerous other parameters, such as the PV panel’s location, season, tilt, orientation, etc., are also discussed, which makes its selection easier according to the requirements. This research work is organized in such a manner that it provides a valuable path for energy engineers and researchers to select an appropriate MPPT technique based on the projects’ limitations and objectives.

In this work, a non-isolated DC–DC converter is presented that combines a voltage doubler circuit and switch inductor cell with the single ended primary inductor converter to achieve a high voltage gain at a low duty cycle and with reduced component count. The converter utilizes a single switch that makes its control very simple. The voltage stress across the semiconductor components is less than the output voltage, which makes it possible to use the diodes with reduced voltage rating and a switch with low turn-on resistance. In particular, performance principle of the proposed converter along with the steady state analysis such as voltage gain, voltage stress on semiconductor components, and design of inductors and capacitors, etc., are carried out and discussed in detail. Moreover, to regulate a constant voltage at a DC-link capacitor, back propagation algorithm-based adaptive control schemes are designed. These adaptive schemes enhance the system performance by dynamically updating the control law parameters in case of PV intermittency. Furthermore, a proportional resonant controller based on Naslin polynomial method is designed for the current control loop. The method describes a systematic procedure to calculate proportional gain, resonant gain, and all the coefficients for the resonant path. Finally, the proposed system is simulated in MATLAB and Simulink software to validate the analytical and theoretical concepts along with the efficacy of the proposed model.

The integrated energy system is the mainstream energy utilization form of integrating a power system, natural gas system and thermal system, which provides a new way to solve the problem of renewable energy accommodation. The integrated energy system includes a variety of energy generation and conversion equipment, and its internal electricity, gas, cooling and thermal systems must balance the multiple energy supplies required by users. The integrated energy supplier (IES) and integrated energy user (IEU), as different stakeholders, pursue the maximization of their own profit. However, integrated energy suppliers should consider their market share and the sustainability of participating in market competition. Based on the constraints of energy access, conversion and accommodation, and the equipment for energy generation, conversion and consumption, we established an energy flow model. Constrained by the dynamic equilibrium of the supply of integrated energy suppliers and the demand of integrated energy users, a Stackelberg game model of integrated energy suppliers and users was established, and the existence of a Nash equilibrium solution of the game was proved. A genetic algorithm was used to solve the Nash equilibrium solution under two conditions aiming at the integrated energy supplier’s maximum profit and target profit. Considering the demand of integrated energy users in different time periods, we analyzed the time-of-use pricing strategy of the integrated energy based on the balance of the energy supply and demand. The results of a case study show that if integrated energy suppliers adopt the time-of-use pricing strategy of maximum profit, the energy load distribution of integrated energy users can be smoothed, and energy utilization and economic benefits of the system can be improved. If integrated energy suppliers adopt the time-of-use pricing strategy of target profit, enlarge the market by limiting their own profit and obtain the purchase willingness of integrated energy users by reducing the energy price, they can have a larger market share, a more reliable profit and a guarantee of long-term participation in market transactions.

In order to promote the wind monitoring accuracy and provide a quantitative planning method for met mast layout in practical projects, this paper proposes a two-stage layout method for met mast based on discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) zoning and micro quantitative siting. Firstly, according to the wind turbines layout, rotational empirical orthogonal function and hierarchical clustering methods are used to preliminarily determine zoning number. Considering the geographical proximity of wind turbines and the correlation of wind speed, an optimal macro zoning model of wind farm based on improved DPSO is established. Then, combined with the grid screening method and optimal layout evaluation index, a micro quantitative siting method of met mast is proposed. Finally, the rationality and efficiency of macro zoning method based on improved DPSO, as well as the objectivity and standardization of micro quantitative siting, are verified by an actual wind farm.

With the development of large-scale renewable energy consumption and multi-infeed high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, the demand of a system for the synchronous condensers with a strong dynamic reactive power support capacity and a strong short-time overload capacity is increasing. Meanwhile, with the reuse of a large number of retired thermal units, the most practical and economic way is to transform thermal units into synchronous condensers. The cost difference in the life-cycle of the synchronous condenser transformed from a thermal unit (SCTTU) and the newly established synchronous condenser (NESC) is a key factor that affects the decision-making and construction of the transformation from thermal unit to synchronous condenser. However, the life-cycle cost (LCC) of the synchronous condenser transformed from a thermal unit and the newly established synchronous condenser contains many uncertain factors, which affect the accuracy of the LCC estimation value. In order to quantify the impact of the blind information on the cost of the synchronous condenser station, blind number theory is introduced to establish the blind number model of the LCC of the synchronous condenser transformed from a thermal unit and the newly established synchronous condenser. Additionally, the LCC of the NESC and SCTTU with a different life-cycle under the capacity of 2 × 300 MVar are estimated. The results show that the cost of the SCTTU with a long service life of more than 15 years is significantly lower than that of the NESC and, thus, the SCTTU has better economic performance. The economic performance of the SCTTU with a life-cycle of less than 15 years is not better than that of the NESC. Compared with the traditional calculation method of a single cost value, the blind number model can obtain the possible distribution interval of LCC and the reliability of the corresponding interval, which makes the estimation results more valuable for practical engineering reference.

It has become a basic requirement for wind turbines (WTs) to provide frequency regulation and inertia support. The influence of WTs on the low-frequency oscillation (LFO) of the system will change after adopting inertia control methods. This paper intends to investigate and compare in detail the IC effects on LFO characteristics in two systems with different structures. First, the mechanism of inertia control of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based WTs is analyzed. Then, the small-signal analysis method and modal analysis method are used to study the influence of the inertia control on the LFO characteristics based on the two-machine infinite-bus system and the four-machine two-area system, respectively. The difference in impact rules of IC on LFO is compared in detail. Finally, considering that the inertia control might worsen the LFO in some systems, an improved inertia control strategy of DFIG-based WTs is proposed to suppress the LFO. The simulation results demonstrate that, in systems with different structures, the impact rules of the inertia control parameters on LFO are different. With the improved inertia control strategy, DFIG-based WTs can suppress the LFO of the system and provide inertia support for the system.
