The increase in power outages caused by high-impact low-probability events, such as extreme weather-related climate variation events, is the main reason behind studying power system resilience. However, the concepts of resilience as well as the proactive procedures that can be carried out to address these events are such have not so far been satisfactorily investigated notwithstanding their growing benefits. This paper exhibits a review of the current research on power system resilience; which predominantly focuses on proactive resilience against natural disasters. Firstly, it gives a theoretical framework to acquire insights into power system resilience and its key features. Secondly, it presents frameworks for proactive resilience of power systems with a spotlight on the extreme weather events and their effect. Finally, various strategies for preparing, hardening and enhancing proactive resilience with a focus on microgrids for improving power system resilience are reviewed.

This paper proposes an accurate secured framework to detect and stop data integrity attacks in wireless sensors networks in microgrids. To this end, an intelligent anomaly detection method based on prediction intervals is introduced to distinguish malicious attacks with different severities during a secured operation. The proposed anomaly detection method is constructed based on the lower and upper bound estimation (LUBE) method to provide optimal feasible prediction intervals over the smart meter readings at electric consumers. It also makes use of the combinatorial concept of prediction intervals to solve the instability issues arising from the neural networks. Due to the high complexity and oscillatory nature of the electric consumers data, a new modified optimization algorithm based on symbiotic organisms search (SOS) is developed to adjust the NN parameters. The high accuracy and satisfying performance of the proposed model are assessed on the practical data of a residential microgrid.

In this paper, we propose a new framework for the optimal virtual power plant (VPP) energy management problem considering correlated demand response (CDR). Our objective is to minimize the VPP operating cost while maintaining the power quality of the system. We formulate a risk-constrained two-stage stochastic program to address uncertainties in day-ahead and real-time electricity prices, renewable energy source’s (RES) generation processes, and the CDR relationship. The VPP can also maintain cooling and heating balances by coordinating combined cooling, heating, and power production (CCHP) and CDR units. Extensive simulation results show that the VPP can minimize the operating cost and ensure the energy balance and power quality by coordinating components in the framework we propose.

The elimination of a variety of noises such as the narrow-band interference in the detection of partial discharge (PD) signals in switchgear is an intractable issue. Furthermore, the self-adaptation in the denoising process is weak. A partial discharge based Novel Adaptive Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (Novel Adaptive EEMD, NAEEMD) method is proposed in this paper for noise reduction. Firstly, the signal is decomposed using the EEMD, only the first-order natural mode is decomposed until the signal margin reaches the EEMD decomposed termination condition. After removing the first-order mode, noise is added to the residual signal, and the remaining signal components are decomposed in the next stage. At last, the intrinsic mode function (IMF) of the noise reduction reconstruction is adaptively selected. The latter is accomplished by combining the energy density and the average period of the IMF correlation coefficient method. Meanwhile, the proposed method provides a new strategy for pre-processing the PD signal of the switchgear. The outcomes of proposed NAEEMD de-noising method have been compared with the conventional Wavelet denoising algorithm (WDA) and EMD-based threshold denoising for validation. The simulation results showed a good denoising effect and effectiveness of the proposed method compared to the WDA and EMD-based threshold denoising. Furthermore, an experimental simulation utilizing actual switchgear PD signal has been performed to verify the noise reduction effectiveness of the proposed method.

This article proposes a deep learning based approach for cyber attack detection in the vehicles. The proposed method is constructed based on generative adversarial network (GAN) classification to assess the message frames transferring between the electric control unit (ECU) and other hardware in the vehicle. To this end, two networks called generator (G) and discriminator (D) will run an adversarial game to fool each other. In such a process, the most optimal structure is found which distinguish between the model normal behavior and abnormalities. Due to the instabilities existing in the GAN model, a new optimization method based on firefly algorithm is proposed to create a class of generators in a feasible region, i.e. the discriminator D. A three-stage modification method is also devised to increase the algorithm population diversity and reduce the possibility of falling in local optima. The performance of the model is assessed on the experimental dataset recorded from the OBD-II port of an undefined vehicle.
