The current Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) for marine observations and emergency responses suffers from two critical issues: 1) energy efficient and 2) timely data collection. Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), serving as tools for collecting and forwarding distributed data, can deal with the unbalanced power consumption in a traditional multihop underwater communication network. However, the low speed of the AUV has not been able to guarantee the timeliness of delay-sensitive data. In this article, we introduce a hybrid data collection scheme (HDCS), taking both real-time data collection and energy efficiency (EE) issues into consideration. All sensor nodes (SNs) are first clustered based on their locations in the network. We develop an analytic expression to describe the attenuation of Value of Information (VoI), involving the relationship between the importance degree and timeliness; initial VoI could be measured by historical data. The emergency can be recognized by the presented criterion, and the transmission mode of cluster heads (CHs) in the same layer is judged by CHs themselves according to VoI. The selected CHs shall transmit the urgent data via multihop routing to avoid over attenuation of VoI. The normal data are collected by AUVs visiting all remaining CHs, and the shortest trajectory is achieved by addressing a variation of the classic traveling salesman problem (TSP). Our simulation experiments show that this mechanism can effectively increase long-term VoI while significantly improving EE.

The semantic communication mechanism enables wireless devices in vehicular networks to communicate more effectively with the semantic meaning. However, in high-dynamic vehicular networks, the transmission of semantic information faces challenges in terms of reliability and stability. To address these challenges, a long-term robust resource allocation scheme is proposed under the Device-to-Device (D2D) vehicular (D2D-V) networks, where multiple performance indicators (user satisfaction, queue stability, and communication delay) are considered. Due to the sophisticated probabilistic form with consideration of channel fluctuations, the Bernstein approximation is introduced to acquire the deterministic constraint more efficiently. The robust resource allocation problem is proposed and separated into two independent subproblems by the Lyapunov optimization method, which includes semantic access control in the application layer and power control in the physical layer. After that, the successive convex approximation method and Karush-Kuhn-Tucher conditions are adopted to solve the subproblems, thereby proposing a robust resource allocation algorithm. The simulations reveal the trade-off relationship between user satisfaction, queue stability, and communication delay, which is on the premise of meeting the user SINR requirement. Moreover, the simulations also prove the necessity of considering channel uncertainty in high-speed mobile vehicular communication scenarios.
Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a key technology to enable multi-tasking and low-latency user experiences for 5G Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology is used in this context to enable large-scale connectivity and improve spectrum efficiency, with the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) serving as both computing units and relays for mobile users (MUs). Energy efficiency (EE) remains challenging given the limited energy available to the UAV and MUs. In this paper, a UAV-assisted NOMA-MEC communication network architecture is studied to maximize the EE of the total system by jointly optimizing the user’s communication scheduling, resource allocation, and UAV flight trajectory. Among them, the resource allocation problem can further be divided into the transmit power optimization problem and the task computation allocation problem, whereby the corresponding time slot scheduling is obtained. The objective function is a nonconvex mixed-integer nonlinear fractional programming (MINLFP) problem, which is too complex to solve directly. Therefore, it is decomposed into more manageable subproblems and solved iteratively. Fractional problems are solved using the Dinkelbach method, which transforms their original subproblems into convex forms with methods such as successive convex approximation (SCA). Simulation results demonstrate the convergence of our proposed algorithm and its significant advantage over existing strategies in terms of EE.

In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed to optimize the effectiveness of the device-to-device (D2D)-enabled vehicular communications (D2D-V) which are underlaid in cellular networks, where the uplink channel allocated to one cellular user (CU) is reused by the multiple D2D-V links. To develop a well-functioning D2D-V system, the sum rate of all D2D-V links is necessary to be maximized, and also the reliability of the cochannel CU to infrastructure has to be guaranteed by the CU interference constraint. Unlike the traditional statical D2D systems, the D2D-V system suffers with high mobility and channel uncertainty. Therefore, the CU interference constraint is formulated as a probabilistic function by the Bernstein approximation; the constraint attempts to address the mobile channel fluctuations. Besides, the tractable approximate constraint is reformulated as two separable structure; this reformulated constraint attempts to determine the near-optimal solutions more efficiently. Since the objective function with a logarithmic form is nonconvex, successive convex approximation is applied to transform the nonconvex problem into the convex problem. The dual decomposition is used to determine the near-optimal solutions. After the problem is reformulated, a distributed robust power control algorithm is proposed to perform the chance-constrained optimization. Numerical simulations are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show the impacts of system performance when applying the proposed scheme in vehicular environments with high mobility. The proposed optimization schemes are further verified by comparing with the existing methods.

In this paper, a battery charging and swapping optimization model is established for electric vehicles (EVs) and battery charging/swapping stations (BCSS). The EVs are categorized into private electric vehicles (PrEVs) and electric taxis (ETs), where the charging behaviors of PrEVs are modeled based on the Monte Carlo (MC) method, and the battery swapping (BS) strategies of ETs are optimized by bi-level dynamic game. Moreover, the voltage deviation of the power grid is considered in the load regulation process of ETs. A “path-location” model is established combining with the Floyd algorithm in the simulation and the IEEE 14-Bus system is used to derive the node voltage. Numerical results show that the proposed strategy can simultaneously increase the revenue of BCSS and ETs and reduce the voltage deviation.
