Modern multiphase electric machines take advantage of additional degrees of freedom for various purposes, including harmonic current injection to increase torque per ampere. This new approach introduces a non-sinusoidal air gap flux density distribution causing additional technical problems and so the conventional assumptions need to be revised. The paper presents a methodology for synthesis of air gap magnetic field generated by a symmetrically distributed multiphase windings including the rotor field reaction due to the machine’s load. The proposed method is suitable either for single-layer or double layer windings and can be adopted either for full-pitched or chorded winding including slots effects. The article analyses the air gap flux density harmonic content and formulates conclusions important to multiphase induction motors. It also discusses effects of time harmonic currents and illustrates the principle of changing number of pole-pairs typical for harmonic currents being injected to increase torque.
The paper briefly discusses the most important standards and regulations established for high-power wireless power transfer systems and introduces the main issues concerned with the conceptual design process. It analyses the electromagnetic design of the inductive magnetic coupler and proposes key formulas to optimize its electrical parameters for a particular load. The method applies to both the resistive load and the battery charging. It also suggests basic topologies for conceptual design of power electronics and discusses its proper connection to the grid. The proposed design strategy is verified by experimental laboratory measurement including analyses of the leakage magnetic field.
The paper presents optimal operating point tracking algorithm for wireless charging system using identical coupling coils providing us to meet simultaneously high efficiency and high transmitted power under varied load and detuning conditions. The proposed method is suitable either for purely resistive load or battery load and it is based on phase-shift control between the primary and the secondary voltage. The paper also gives an intuitive mathematical description of the key control idea and demonstrates its operational abilities. The proposed algorithm is finally implemented into digital signal processor (DSP) and tested on 4 kW laboratory prototype of shielded wireless power transfer system.
The most common cause of high voltage electric machine malfunction is an electrical failure of the insulation system due to extreme partial discharges activity. The paper discusses the methodology for the construction of a low-pass high voltage filter for partial discharge measurement. It focuses mainly on the shape optimization, using an analytical approach with subsequent verification using the finite element method. The experimental verification is given together with important conclusions.
