Infectious spondylodiscitis is a life-threatening disease and has some challenges in terms of diagnostic, differentiative, and therapeutic processes. Therefore, rapid and effective management of infectious spondylodiscitis is necessary. Hematological inflammation indices (HIIs) such as the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and aggregate index of systemic inflammation are derived from blood cells and used as diagnostic, prognostic, predictive, and treatment monitoring indicators. This study aimed to evaluate HIIs for discriminating between infectious spondylodiscitis pathogens. This retrospective comparative study included 116 patients with infectious spondylodiscitis. According to the responsible infectious pathogens, three types of infectious spondylodiscitis were defined: Brucella (n = 51), pyogenic (n = 43), and tuberculous (n = 22). The HIIs were derived from baseline complete blood counts. The three types of infectious spondylodiscitis were statistically compared for the HII scores. We found that the Brucella group had significantly lower HII scores than the pyogenic group (p < 0.05). Also, the Brucella group had significantly lower HII scores than the tuberculous group (p < 0.05). However, no significant differences were found between the pyogenic and tuberculous groups regarding HIIs (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the HIIs may be considered in the differentiation between Brucella spondylodiscitis and other types of infectious spondylodiscitis.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the cilinical and demographic characteristics of geriatric patients aged 65 and over who presented at the physical medicine and rehabilitation polyclinic of university hospital. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in the physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) department of Harran University Hospital. In the study, the records of geriatric patients aged 65 and over who presented at the PMR polyclinic in the first 10 months of 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic characteristics and diagnoses of patients in the geriatric age group were examined. Results: A total of 759 people were included in the study, 546 of whom were women (71.9%) and 213 of them (28.1%) were men aged 65 and over. The gender distribution was determined to be significantly predominantly female (p0.05). Conclusion: We observed that the most common diagnoses of the older adult patients who presented at our PMR polyclinic, the most frequent were degenerative diseases and osteoporosis, followed by other diagnoses. To reduce pain and disability in patients, it is important that protective measures are taken against the risk factors that can worsen the clinical condition of the disease in older adults. Nevertheless, we think that there is a need for multicenter clinical studies with wider patient participation related to the prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases in elderly individuals.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of physiotherapist-supervised versus video-assisted pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) combined with tolterodine therapy in women with urge incontinence. Material and Methods: In this prospective randomized controlled trial, 120 women aged 18–60 years with urge incontinence were randomized into two groups. Both groups received tolterodine 4 mg/day. The Video group (n = 60) performed home-based Kegel exercises with instructional video support. The Supervised group (n = 60) attended twice-weekly physiotherapist-supervised sessions. Outcomes were assessed by the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) at baseline and 16 weeks. Adverse effects and treatment discontinuation were recorded. Results: A total of 102 patients completed the trial (Video: 52; Supervised: 50). Both groups showed significant improvement in ICIQ-SF scores (p < 0.001), with superior improvement in the Supervised group (p = 0.017). Adverse event rates were similar (p > 0.05), and no serious adverse events were reported. Conclusion: PFMT combined with tolterodine improves urge incontinence symptoms. Supervised training yields greater benefit, though video-assisted PFMT remains a cost-effective and accessible alternative.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis is a common chronic inflammatory disease that causes deformation and structural damage. Although cervical involvement is more common in the spine, lumbar involvement can also be seen. Material and Methods: The data of the patients in the groups with and without rheumatoid arthritis who were followed up for low back pain in the last 5 years in 3 central hospitals in the study were obtained by retrospectively scanning the database. Results: In our study, which was performed on 132 patient data, it was observed that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of radiological characteristics. No significant difference was observed in terms of surgical results. Conclusion: Although radiologically different features were added due to rheumatoid arthritis, it was observed that it did not affect the surgical results and complications.
