Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the cilinical and demographic characteristics of geriatric patients aged 65 and over who presented at the physical medicine and rehabilitation polyclinic of university hospital. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in the physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) department of Harran University Hospital. In the study, the records of geriatric patients aged 65 and over who presented at the PMR polyclinic in the first 10 months of 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic characteristics and diagnoses of patients in the geriatric age group were examined. Results: A total of 759 people were included in the study, 546 of whom were women (71.9%) and 213 of them (28.1%) were men aged 65 and over. The gender distribution was determined to be significantly predominantly female (p0.05). Conclusion: We observed that the most common diagnoses of the older adult patients who presented at our PMR polyclinic, the most frequent were degenerative diseases and osteoporosis, followed by other diagnoses. To reduce pain and disability in patients, it is important that protective measures are taken against the risk factors that can worsen the clinical condition of the disease in older adults. Nevertheless, we think that there is a need for multicenter clinical studies with wider patient participation related to the prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases in elderly individuals.
Aim: We aimed to investigate the relationship between the presence of spondylolisthesis and Modic changes (MCs) by using lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: The study included 139 adult patients aged 18-65 years with lumbar spondylolisthesis detected on lumbar MRI. Demographic characteristics such as age, gender, and levels and grades of spondylolisthesis, and presence of lumbar MCs/types were recorded. The findings were compared between two groups including grade 1 and grade 2 spondylolisthesis. Results: Grade 1 and 2 spondylolisthesis groups were similar for age (p=0.787), sex (p=0.076), listhesis' level (p=0.268) and direction (p=0.280). The presences of pars spondylolysis, disc space narrowing, and MCs were significantly higher in patients with grade 2 spondylolisthesis than those with grade 1 (94.4% vs 64.1%), (97.2% vs 83.5%), and (100% vs 83.5%), respectively (all p

Aim: The aim of this study was to retrospectively assess the bone dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) with the prolongation of human living all over the world results taken over a year along with the demographic characteristics of the patients. Material and Method: This study was performed at the Department of Radiology, Harran University Hospital between January 1, 2022 and January 1, 2023. Bone DXA examinations requested from all clinical departments within a one-year period were investigated. Osteoporosis (OP) was evaluated considering clinical department-based six groups and age-based four groups. Results: A total of 1366 patients from all clinical departments such as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR), orthopedics, neurology, endocrine, obstetrics and other branches who requested bone DXA were included in the study. Of these, 1166 (85.36%) were women and 200 (14.64%) were men. The PMR was the most frequently prompted clinical department with 721 (52.78%) patients. The OP frequency was highest in the group aged 65 years and older. The lowest OP frequency was seen in the group aged 64 years and younger. Conclusion: The prevalence of osteoporosis increases with age and the prevalence of OP is higher in women. More than half of DXA requests belong to the PMR department. The PMR department have an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of OP.
