Fractional differential equations depict nature sufficiently in light of the symmetry properties which describe biological and physical processes. This article is concerned with the numerical treatment of three-term time fractional-order multi-dimensional diffusion equations by using an efficient local meshless method. The space derivative of the models is discretized by the proposed meshless procedure based on the multiquadric radial basis function though the time-fractional part is discretized by Liouville–Caputo fractional derivative. The numerical results are obtained for one-, two- and three-dimensional cases on rectangular and non-rectangular computational domains which verify the validity, efficiency and accuracy of the method.

Variational iteration method has been extensively employed to deal with linear and nonlinear differential equations of integer and fractional order. The key property of the technique is its ability and flexibility to investigate linear and nonlinear models conveniently and accurately. The current study presents an improved algorithm to the variational iteration algorithm-II (VIA-II) for the numerical treatment of diffusion as well as convection-diffusion equations. This newly introduced modification is termed as the modified variational iteration algorithm-II (MVIA-II). The convergence of the MVIA-II is studied in the case of solving nonlinear equations. The main advantage of the MVIA-II improvement is an auxiliary parameter which makes sure a fast convergence of the standard VIA-II iteration algorithm. In order to verify the stability, accuracy, and computational speed of the method, the obtained solutions are compared numerically and graphically with the exact ones as well as with the results obtained by the previously proposed compact finite difference method and second kind Chebyshev wavelets. The comparison revealed that the modified version yields accurate results, converges rapidly, and offers better robustness in comparison with other methods used in the literature. Moreover, the basic idea depicted in this study is relied upon the possibility of the MVIA-II being utilized to handle nonlinear differential equations that arise in different fields of physical and biological sciences. A strong motivation for such applications is the fact that any discretization, transformation, or any assumptions are not required for this proposed algorithm in finding appropriate numerical solutions.

The study presents a meshless computational approach for simulating the three-dimensional multi-term time-fractional mobile-immobile diffusion equation in the Caputo sense. The methodology combines a stable Crank-Nicolson time-integration scheme with the definition of the Caputo derivative to discretize the problem in the temporal direction. The spatial function derivative is approximated using the inverse multiquadric radial basis function. The solution is approximated on a set of scattered or uniform nodes, resulting in a sparse and well-conditioned coefficient matrix. The study highlights the advantages of meshless method, particularly their simplicity of implementation in higher dimensions. To validate the accuracy and efficacy of the proposed method, we performed numerical simulations and compared them with analytical solutions for various test problems. These simulations were carried out on computational domains of both rectangular and non-rectangular shapes. The research highlights the potential of meshless techniques in solving complex diffusion problems and its successful applications in groundwater contamination and other relevant fields.

In this study, we propose a simple direct meshless scheme based on the Gaussian radial basis function for the one-dimensional linear and nonlinear convection–diffusion problems, which frequently occur in physical phenomena. This is fulfilled by constructing a simple ‘anisotropic’ space–time Gaussian radial basis function. According to the proposed scheme, there is no need to remove time-dependent variables during the whole solution process, which leads it to a really meshless method. The suggested meshless method is implemented to the challenging convection–diffusion problems in a direct way with ease. Numerical results show that the proposed meshless method is simple, accurate, stable, easy-to-program and efficient for both linear and nonlinear convection–diffusion equation with different values of Péclet number. To assess the accuracy absolute error, average absolute error and root-mean-square error are used.

This article is concerned with the numerical solution of nonlinear hyperbolic Schro¨dinger equations (NHSEs) via an efficient Haar wavelet collocation method (HWCM). The time derivative is approximated in the governing equations by the central difference scheme, while the space derivatives are replaced by finite Haar series, which transform it to full algebraic form. The experimental rate of convergence follows the theoretical statements of convergence and the conservation laws of energy and mass are also presented, which strengthens the proposed method to be convergent and conservative. The Haar wavelets based on numerical results for solitary wave shape of |φ| are discussed in detail. The proposed approach provides a fast convergent approximation to the NHSEs. The reliability and efficiency of the method are illustrated by computing the maximum error norm and the experimental rate of convergence for different problems. Comparisons are performed with various existing methods in recent literature and better performance of the proposed method is shown in various tables and figures.

In this paper, a local meshless differential quadrature collocation method based on radial basis functions is proposed for the numerical simulation of one-dimensional Klein–Gordon, two-dimensional coupled Burgers’, and regularized long wave equations. Both local and global meshless collocation procedures are used for spatial discretization, which convert the mentioned partial differential equations into a system of ordinary differential equations. The obtained system has been solved by the forward Euler difference formula. An upwind technique is utilized in the case of the convection-dominated coupled Burgers’ model equation. Having no need for the mesh in the problem domain and being less sensitive to the variation of the shape parameter as compared to global meshless methods are the salient features of the local meshless method. Both rectangular and non-rectangular domains with uniform and scattered nodal points are considered. Accuracy, efficacy, and the ease of implementation of the proposed method are shown via test problems.
