Prof. Ilaria Corsi is an Associate Professor of Ecology andEcotoxicology at the University of Siena. She earned her degree with full marksin 1995 in Biological Sciences at the University of Siena within an EC project of the University Plymouth (UK) (Erasmus scholarship). In 1996, she obtained a Leonardo UETP scholarship and a eummer course language scholarship at King’s College, Cambridge (UK). From 1996 to 1998, she worked as a fellow in national research projects (PRISMA2-CNR and PNRA) to study biomarkers in marine organisms. In 2001, she received a PhD in Environmental Biology from the Faculty of Science, University of Siena. Since then, she has had four four-year positions as an Assistant Researcher at the University of Siena within the following EC INTERREG II projects: 'Protection of marine ecosystem', 'Bioindicators and biomarkers in pollution monitoring'. In 2002–2003, she was a Fulbright scholar at Stanford University, Hopkins Marine Station (California, USA), studying cell suicide in fish embryos. In 2005, she took a permanent position as a researcher at the University of Siena, collaborates in several European and national projects and also works as a project leader funded by the Ministry of Environment, Health, University, and Research and Agricultural Policies. She is currently head of the Ecotoxicology Laboratory at the Department of Physical, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Siena.
