Associate Professor Joseph Lizier is a SOAR Fellow in the Complex Systems group of the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sydney. His research focusses on studying the dynamics of information processing in biological and bio-inspired complex systems and networks, in particular for neural systems. He is a developer of the popular JIDT and IDTxl toolboxes for measuring dynamics and inferring structure of complex systems using information theory. A/Prof. Lizier teaches into the University's Master of Complex Systems degree. Before joining USyd in 2015, A/Prof. Lizier held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute (Leipzig, 2010-12) and CSIRO (Sydney, 2012-14), and was a telecommunications research engineer at Seeker Wireless (2006-2010) and Telstra Research Laboratories (2001-2006). He obtained a PhD in Computer Science (2010), Bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering (2000) and Science (1998), and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (2016), all from USyd.
