Purpose Trajectory tracking error of robotic manipulator has limited its applications in trajectory tracking control systems. This paper aims to improve the trajectory tracking accuracy of robotic manipulator, so a linear-extended-state-observer (LESO)-based prescribed performance controller is proposed. Design/methodology/approach A prescribed performance function with the convergence rate, maximum overshoot and steady-state error is derived for the output error transformation, whose stability can guarantee trajectory tracking accuracy of the original robotic system. A LESO is designed to estimate and eliminate the total disturbance, which neither requires a detailed system model nor a heavy computation load. The stability of the system is proved via the Lyapunov theory. Findings Comparative experimental results show that the proposed controller can achieve better trajectory tracking accuracy than proportional-integral-differential control and linear active disturbance rejection control. Originality/value In the LESO-based prescribed performance control (PPC), the LESO was incorporated into the PPC design, it solved the problem of stabilizing the complex transformed system and avoided the costly offline identification of dynamic model and estimated and eliminated the total disturbance in real-time with light computational burden. LESO-based PPC further improved control accuracy on the basis of linear-active-disturbance-rejection-control. The new proposed method can reduce the trajectory tracking error of the robotic manipulators effectively on the basis of simplicity and stability.
Robotic machining has obtained growing attention recently because of the low cost, high flexibility and large workspace of industrial robots (IRs). Multiple degrees of freedom of IRs improve the dexterity of machining while causing the problem of redundancy. Meanwhile, the performance of IRs, such as their stiffness and dexterity, is affected by their position and posture obviously. Therefore, a redundant posture optimization method for robotic milling is proposed to improve the machining performance of the robot. The multiple characteristics of the robot are considered, including the joint-limit, singularity and stiffness, which have symmetry in its workspace. Firstly, the joint-limit is regarded as the constraint. And a symmetrical and effective constraint method is proposed to simply guarantee that all the interpolation points can avoid joint interference. Then, the performance indices of singularity and stiffness are designed as the optimization target. On this basis, the piecewise-global-optimization-strategy (PGOS) is proposed for redundant optimization. Owning to the PGOS, all the given planned tool points in their corresponding segment are considered simultaneously to avoid the gradual deterioration in traditional methods, which is especially suitable for the machining process with a continuous path. Moreover, the computational load of the optimization solution is considered and limited by the designed segmentation strategy. Finally, a series of comparative simulations are conducted to validate the good performance of the proposed method.

Vision-based laser penetration control has become an important research area in the field of welding quality control. Due to the complexity and large number of parameters in the monitoring model, control of the welding process based on deep learning and the reliance on long-term information for penetration identification are challenges. In this study, a penetration recognition method based on a two-stage temporal convolutional network is proposed to realize the online process control of laser welding. In this paper, a coaxial vision welding monitoring system is built. A lightweight segmentation model, based on channel pruning, is proposed to extract the key features of the molten pool and the keyhole from the clear molten pool keyhole image. Using these molten pool and keyhole features, a temporal convolutional network based on attention mechanism is established. The recognition method can effectively predict the laser welding penetration state, which depends on long-term information. In addition, the penetration identification experiment and closed-loop control experiment of unequal thickness plates are designed. The proposed method in this study has an accuracy of 98.96% and an average inference speed of 20.4 ms. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits significant performance in recognizing the penetration state from long sequences of welding image signals, adjusting welding power, and stabilizing welding quality.
